:) Car was picked up by the mechanic this morning. These guys are from a racing background. I'm giving them free reign on set up although it won't be much off std

Cars a nightmare at the moment, so unstable at speed, not alot of fun, will post the feedback later today.tomo, + the set up sheet.

BMW replaced the top mounts last wk, but refused to do the geo!! I tried to rationalise with the guy that it should be done!!! no joy, they wanted close to 300£!!!! Politely told them to sod off!

So let's get this right...... the mechanic you trusted your car with this morning is from a racing background AND you've given him free reign with your Zed :o

Yep, and i told him to give it some stick too! Boy runs radicals i think... :D

Good man! Seriously though hope the stability issue gets sorted - keep us updated. 40 degrees now in Sharjah

really!!!! I'm due out to Abu Dhabi at some point. Not sure when. The ADIPEC is later in the yr too.

Got call from Clarke there, front was ok, marginally out, rear quite a bit out... Will got for a good run after work, although it's bloody wet and windy here. 7deg.

Well here we go, not huge in terms of correction but we'll have to see what it's like on the road...(When it's dry!)

£80 with discount! Can't complain really for piece of mind.

Anyone got any good links as to what all the adjustments do and affect? Would like to gain a greater understanding of handling.

Good work - let us know how you get on with the new setup
(think I'll be doing mine regardless, but always nice to get a little positive re-inforcement!)

Have a look at this post from A11y: Suspension geometry for Dummies (Ally's term!)

If this takes you fancy - www.alignmycar.co.uk

Not sure I understand it, but am going to get my car done now the new wheels are on. You should get yours done... wheels look great, stop window shopping!

As you say mate, it's piece of mind for me. Looking forward to a dry day to get a blast.

Ah. I was about to post up that link in response to daveg's query but pawnsacrifice has saved me the time!

I need to look out my printout from when I had my alignment done recently - I'm sure I had a good bit more rear neg camber than that, but again I'm not sure how the Z4 setup differs from the Z4M setup?

Thanks for the links Matt.

Busted for the wheels - I can't help but look! Any updates on your brakes?

Still trying to get an incorrect rear carrier replaced - hopefully be on the car soon!

Should be getting the alignment done in the near future too. There's an outfit in Bray that's been well reviewed. Looking forward to this, given the reports to date.

3 mins of thrust angle at the back, along with those rather large rear camber differences won't have made it feel fantastic to be honest.

The Z4 geometry uses a fair bit of bump camber gain at the back, so having one wheel so far ahead on negative camber would mean over bumps and stuff across the road profile the feeling of it wanting to fire left/right from the back would be more noticeable and non-intuitive than it should be imo.

Looks like good final settings :D

Cheers mate...In all honesty the car still feels a little nervous at speed, only variable has been mixing and matching tyres. Miche PS2 at the fronts and Vreds at the back..

I think the Z4M is VERY sensitive to differing grip levels front and rear even on the same brand tyres. I had brand new Contis on the rear and 3-4mm tread left on the fronts and the car felt very unstable at speed, so much so that I took the car into BMW. It can take a while for new tyres to bed in I know but this was beyond that. Have changed the fronts now.

Funnily enough I drove a RR s/c Wed and now my car feels like it handles like a F1 car in comparison!!

Ali,

Does your setup differ much from these settings in the FAQ?

Ride Height Rear : 594mm
Ride Height Front: 607mm

Rear Camber: -1°50'
Rear Cross Camber: 0°30'
Rear Individual Toe: +0°14'
Total Toe: +0°28'
Geometrical Driving Axis: +0°00'

Front Camber: -1°00'
Cross Camber: +0°20'
Individual Toe: +0°05'
Total Toe: +0°11'

I'm taking my car for a Geo on Saturday, and was wondering whether you gained anything from a non-standard setup, or if I should just stick to the above.

Thanks,

Nathan

I too, would be interested in knowing the above. I need alignment set up and wanted to take those settings to them...
