Gentle Knocking Noise Coming From A Closed Roof

Hi,

I have a gentle knocking noise coming from the roof on the passenger side behind the seat. I have just spent the last hour trying to find out where the noise is coming from but no result. I have had the rear springs replaced so I know its not them. The noise only happens when the roof is up. The knocking noise is like something is swinging back and forth when the car goes over bumpy ground (20-30mph or less).

Anybody have any ideas as its driving me around the bend.... Thanks

Yeh, I've driven with the boot shelf in the up position and the normal down position and the knocking noise is still there... Its so bloody annoying its unreal!!!

has something not dropped in it and is rolling about or is there a cable loose?

just thinking out loud so im probably wrong :D

try and fish ur hands round a little to se if anything is lose

I've had a good look around the boot and the roof lining and I couldn't see or feel anything loose. It's not a rattle or sqeek noise but more like if someone is gently taping on the side of the roof (it's hard to try and explain really)!

was it not raining :poke:

why dont you get someone to drive your car while you sit and listen around for the source or viser-verser

Bump! Was this ever solved? I have the same issue and it's driving me mental!

So here's the obvious question - does it knock with the roof down?

Yes and its most probably not the roof; no and it is and you've got a very limited set of causes - more likely the roof is amplifying the sound.

The clear plastic wind blockers inside the roll hoops tend to rattle about and you can’t hear them with the roof down. Tiny blob of clear silicone in each corner sorts it.

Hmm I'll have a look at that. It's weird as it sounds like it's coming from the back of the car rather than in the cabin but you never know!
