Genesis of the ///M logo

I read on BMWblog.com that the ///M logo has its origin in the racing partnership between BMW and Texaco!!! :o The pale blue stripe represents the color of Bavaria and the red stripe is for Texaco. The purple stripe was added in the middle for better blending effect. Isn't that bizarre? When the partnership was dissolved, allegedly BMW had to pay Texaco for the right to use the red stripe. :scratchhead:

Sounds like interesting stuff - no wonder M's drink so much! :D

Was it part of the deal?

Texaco: Fine, fine, you can keep the colour but only if you make all M cars 30% less fuel efficient than you would normally would and stamp "Only use Texaco fuel" on the fuel cap. :D
