General thoughts...

Gents (and ladies I presume),

I'm looking for a 'toy' to store in the garage over winter, enjoy in summer and generally polish and enjoy. I sold a 924S recently, and always liked the look of the Z4.

So, Questions if I may...

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201904016492466?sort=year-desc&exclude-writeoff-categories=on&postcode=ng349ae&radius=200&make=BMW&onesearchad=Used&onesearchad=Nearly%20New&onesearchad=New&model=Z4&price-to=5500&advertising-location=at_cars&maximum-mileage=70000&colour=Black&colour=Blue&colour=Grey&colour=Red&minimum-badge-engine-size=2.4&page=1

I'm looking at this car. I love the bright bodywork colour, I like the higher output 2.5 (last 2.5 I had was a '99 coupe, steel blue, cream interior...). So, bearing in mind I'm old, not a tearaway driver and like heated seats, your thoughts on the value of the car above? Is the Si model really noticeably more powerful than the 'normal' models? I will happily peruse the rest of this forum, always happy to take advice, but any immediate thoughts, warnings or general points?

Thanks chaps,

Isaneng

Welcome to the forum. Love that colour. Needs 18” or 19” wheels and the wood dash is not for everyone. Looks a nice car. There is a buyers guide on here somewhere. Might be worth a look.

I seem to remember reading on the Forum that this seller does not have the best of reputations so be careful.

10k on the the clock and 5 stamps, so servicing done on time and car probably spent it's life in a garage. Sounds worth a look to me, if that is indeed the case.

Great looking Zed too. 8)

It should have 6 stamps.

Walk away based on the posts on that thread about the seller.

As for the car....

Possibly not the original wheels.

The interior is honking with the wooden dash.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Lovely colour, but I would say that.

The facelift 2.5i is rated at 177 PS, whereas the 2.5Si is rated at 218 PS and 2.5i is also quoted as over a second slower from 0 to 100 km/h than the Si, so there's a significant difference. Seeing as they both use a version of the same engine they'll cost the same to run, so going for an Si seems like the obvious way to go. Even if you don't use the extra performance it's nice to know you have it!

The 2.5 and 3.0 litre facelift engines have an electric water pump which can die any time after 8 years of age - and a new one will cost over £200 just for the part. So if you can find any evidence it's already had one that's a bonus, otherwise it's something to bear in mind.

Certainly looks like a good example in the photos, so long as you are happy with those seats, rather than the M-Sport ones that facelift Sport models had. Just don't plan on buying some M-Sport ones to retro-fit because even used ones sell for well over £500 a pair!

If you do decide to go for it I hope it all goes well.

ETA I just read the other thread about difficulties people had encountered - I think I'd look elsewhere! :o

Car looks fine, it does worry me when a garage covers the plates though. Oh and don't take any notice about the wood trim remarks.
It's a well sort after mod on the Z4 and there are plenty of jealous forum members on here, just wait and see

Actually I can only think of 1 fan of wood, other than you!

Actully I'd missed you - sorry!

Went to look at one of his cars last year in "showroom" condition, full of rust and the hood motor was fecked. I'd walk away if I was you.

No need Fred - I've got the ultra rare Cirrus trim in my wonderfully exceptional Coupe.

Much better than a pram with wood!

Guys,

Thank you so much for the feedback. The caution about the dealer is understood - I have a local independent specialist, I would probably pay him to check it out bearing in mind the concerns that have been voiced.

Agree it needs new wheels!

Err, I quite like the wood...does that make me one of only 3 ...??

Thanks chaps.

Fairly much Yes :( , there are so many on here that just do not appreciate that the ultimate Z4 is a Coupé with wood dash, leather interior and a stubby aerial! :poke: :exitright:

Least worst case...

Cost of the car + service + 18" wheels + tyres + front bushes + rear springs.

Car cost + £1500 roughly.

Insurance and road tax on top of that.
