Gearbox revision

Good afternoon,

Newbie from London here and female to boot....
I own, from new, a 2003 3.0i auto and have recently been informed that I need a gearbox revision (there is indeed a raspy wheezy sound from somewhere in the innards of my faithful friend). Two questions really. Firstly: What is the price of such a revision? Secondly: I really wanted to sell the car, put an ad in Autotrader with a £2000 pricetag (with full disclosure of said revision needed) and of course only get people on the phone who want to make a quick buck. Can I find an enthusiastic BMW fan who wants to take this project on? As a newbie I am not quite sure which category I should post this under.... :?

I guess what they tried to tell me is that something in the gearbox has gone and needs to be repaired.

What issues is the gearbox having? How many miles/service history, condition etc.
You could put some recent pics up for us? :?

The gearbox produces a grinding sound in D (and R) when pressing the break pedal and when held stationary on the brake. Less so or not audible when driving. The gearbox oil was changed, on the chance that the filter in there was clogged up. The oil that came out was black with a lot of filings in it. No doubt something in the gearbox is being ground to a pulp.
Here is the link to the ad in Autotrader with full details and pictures of the car.
