Gearbox oil change.

I'm thinking of doing the above but what oil would be recommended for a 2005 3.0i.

Also, would I need new drain/fill plugs to replace the old ones or are they reusable?

Finally, I'm pretty handy on the tools but how easy is it to do, any tips from the guys who've done this job.

Hi Neil,
It's a doddle pal, access to the fill and drain plugs is pretty good. Refilling is a lot easier if you can get yourself a length of 10mm OD tube s and a little funnel, then fill from inside the bonnet (The fill plug is offside towards the front of the box)

Local garage, on asking, wanted £30 labour and £40 oil cost's!! Bugga that I thought, can't be too hard at £30 labour.

Do I need new fill/drain plugs though, would you know?

Again, did your fill/drain plugs need renewing when they did it or did you do it yourself?

Hi Neil,
Drain and fill plugs have captive "O" rings, mine appeared fine so I reused them and there hasn't been any sign of a leak. While you're underneath you could also bleed/change the clutch fluid - chances are it hasn't been touched since it rolled off the production line .

I'll get some RTV for when I put the plugs back in, just in case.

As for the clutch fluid change. I did the CDV delete a couple of weeks ago and thought I'd need to bleed the clutch but then saw how awkward it was to get to the bleed nipple, no spanner that small in my arsenal.
Thankfully, as I'd clamped up the flexi pipe, there was no need to bleed it or else I'd have had a struggle I reckon.
