gearbox oil capacity

Looking to try Redline MTL in my new-to-me Z4MC - have had good results with MTL in other BMW gearboxes over the years. What's the capacity of the gearbox - somewhere in the range of 1.3 litres?

Hi,

It's 1.5 litres (At least it is in the 3.0si, which I understand is the same basic gearbox)

Change mine last year, and ended up measuring the oil I drained out, as the general opinion seems be vary across the forums.

Stu.

OK, job done. About 1.6 litres came out - interesting to note that the old oil started to dribble out of the filler plug as soon as it was removed.

About 1.55 litres of MTL went in before it started to dribble out of the filler plug.

Shifting is much much nicer. When cold the the gearbox is no longer baulks at going into first or second and it just feels like you're encountering the resistance of the detents rather than the synchros not being happy at what they're being asked to do. And when warned up shifting is better still. All with only about 50 miles on the new oil - I expect it will improve a bit further. Time and money well spent IMHO.

How long had the oil been in the box ?
Thinking of changing mine to Amsoil as Z4M-2006 recommends but in all honesty i'm not finding the box & changes at all notchy .
The box oil was last changed in my car 25k ago so approx halfway through its expected life cycle

Good point - the running in service was done at 1477 miles so the oil's been changed once. No detailed receipt but a stamp from sytner's in Solihull.
