Anyone fancy going halves on a gallon of gearbox oil?
BMW only sell in 5 litres at £104 (+VAT?) I only need half that and don't need the rest kicking about.
LT3 (BMW part no. 83 22 753 3818) is the latest spec for later cars. I don't think it should be used unless specified - earlier cars take LT2.
From my research this includes all manuals with N52 engine built later than 2006. Also all manual E85's later than 9/2005. To be positive you need to check the label on the gearbox. On my 2007 coupe this can be read by jacking (and propping) up the drivers side and leaning underneath with a mirror - it is a bit tricky reading the mirror image!
This oil is made exclusively by Castrol (BOT207) for BMW. I cannot find any other OEM alternatives nor other oils that claim to match the LT3 specification (much as I'd like to!)
I live in St Albans but I'm regularly in Shirley near Solihull.
