A friend with an E86 3.0si auto is looking to get the gearbox oil changed. He has been quoted £458 parts & labour which includes a £360 "gearbox kit". Seems an insane amount - anyone had this done?

Cheers

 :P tell him to find another garage
9-10 litres of decent fluid cost around £60-£70 + 2 hours max so should be no more than £150 /£175 , that's just a pi55take .
I'm having my own auto Si done shortly (90k) , il be amazed if its any more than that

depends if there using a genuine kit, its should come with this

Obviously get other quotes, but know mates 5 series auto wasnt cheap with the pan

That doesn't need replacing for just a oil change though

That is about the most absurd quote I’ve ever heard of!!! Capacity is 1.2l, so about £10 in fluid. Labour wise it is about the easiest thing to do, defo no more than 30 mins, you dont even have to remove any covers. Two alan bolts and that’s it. Why on earth you would ever routinely change the gearbox oil pan is beyond me. Nobody should be paying more than £60 at an Indy to have this done. https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=109861&hilit=Alan

Thanks guys that's very helpful. The pan kit and oil can be had on ebay for less than £150. I suppose it comes down to whether the pan needs changing or not

The auto box seems to require 7L of fluid

I've had it done before , left 10litre & had some in boot when I collected it

Jeezus that's a lot of oil!

I can't confirm it takes that much as don't change it myself , I just provide the fluids & my indy does the changes but the Millers site is usually pretty accurate.
