Gearbox and diff oil changes

Guys, looking for thoughts on fluid changes.

MOT is due within the month and since the oil hasn't been changed for two years I will get that changed too at the same time. The gearbox oil and diff oil was changed in 2012 (15k miles ago). Is this something I should be looking at changing now too? To be honest I was thinking of changing the gearbox oil anyway cos the change feels quite notchy and I wondered if new oil would make it a bit smoother.

Normally the manual gearbox oil and diff oil last at least 100k miles.

But if your gearbox feels notchy and you dont like that you could change to a different brand, see if that makes a difference.
But I would stick with oils that have the appropriate bmw spec (either mtf-lt-2 or mtf-lt-3 depending on which car/gearbox you have and what colour sticker is on the gearbox)
yellow and green sticker is mtf-lt-2, blue sticker is mtf-lt-3
(yellow sticker says mtf-lt-1 but that has been superceeded by mtf-lt-2)

Echo above and add that 30k is a sensible diff and box interval.
Imho oil and filter should be no longer than 1 year/8k max, it's very cheap preventative maintenance.

Cheers guys. The Indi I will use for the MOT will change my oil and check out the gearbox with a test drive. They echo your thoughts and dont seem to think the gearbox fluid will need changed.

The box is quite notchy anyway, call it a quirk. A shorter, heavier gear knob will help, ZHP is an option along with MachineMonkeys one.

engine oil - 1 year 10k whichever comes first

gearbox and diff - 4 years or 70k whichever comes first

coolant, brake fluid and spark plugs - 2 years

change relevant filters and gaskets every so often too
