Gearbox and Diff Oil Change

Hello all,

I have trawled the forum and found loads of usefull stuff on changing the gear and diff oil, however nothing specific to my 06 2.0 manual roadster. (lots of info on 3.0 amd M's) This is the next job on my list for the next dry and not too cold day, and I have no problem whatsoever with carrying out the job. My problem is I can't find any specific reference to the 2.0 in terms of the oil capacities of the gearbox and diff, so I dont know how much of the stuff to buy! I would also like to confirm exactly what oils and spec's you guys would recommend. (Im thinking redline, as it seems to be popular choice on here), (although as I said, most references in here are for the larger engined z's)

Many Thanks :D

I had to buy a 5l bottle of the oem stuff for my old 3.0. Only used 1.2l. You're welcome to the remaining 3.8l.

Might be teaching GrandMa to suck eggs but always remove the fill plug first before emptying either gearbox or diff because after you've got the old fluid out you need to get the new back in.

Once again thanks for everyones help.. :D Just for my own peace of mind I stuck the car up on the ramps (A trial in its self since the bumper is so low!) and my gearbox has the blue sticker with.......... "MTF-LT-3" on it. so I guess I need the D6-ATL.

Also, Thanks very much to spearman for his very kind offer, but I'm going to go with the redline since it seems to get the thumbs up from most on here.

Once its done I will let you know if its made a difference.

Quick update...... Finally got around to changing the gear oil today. I didn't think my gear changes were to bad, maybe just a tiny bit notchy in 1st and 2nd, but the change is so much smoother with the new oil it's instantly noticeable. The oil that came out didn't look too bad either (I suspect it may have been done at some point), so I wasn't really expecting much of a difference.

So.... If anyone is thinking about changing their gear oil, from my experience its well worth it, and I can recommend Red Line D6-ATF.
