Quick question folks, on the ///M does the gearstick light up red or have I dreamt this?

If its meant to light up and it's not - what would be the first thing to check?

Ta!

Remove the garter by pulling in inwards from one side or the other to find the wiring connections.

Don't remove then knob without checking the wires are disconnected otherwise you will rip them out.

Core blimey so it does. COOOOL.... Only taken 5 years to notice that. Next thing I'l be pressing the Sport button.

However, it won't light up if you've got the ZHP knob, as I believe that's not illuminated.

Yup, spot on - the brown wire has been severed between the plug and the knob. Suggestions to re-join them? I'm wanting something a bit more robust than insulating tape and I'm not keen on soldering.

My father in law didn't notice on his E46 M3 until I mentioned it, he was only 3 years in though - think you must be a record!

I'd go with Beedub. But, if you don't solder well, you could end up with it breaking again. Alternate would be to crimp it, but will require crimps and crimp pliers. Done correctly the joint will be far stronger though.

Just wanted to update the thread, I got a soldering iron today and set about this today and the end result is ...
