Gear stick turning

Hi all,

I’ve been swopping around 3 different gearknobs throughout the year to see which one I’m happiest with and noticed the gear stick itself twists. It’s not due to the gearknob not being on properly as the twist is there with or without the gearknob.

I drove a friends Z4 and the gearknob and shaft was as tight as it should be so made mine look that much more irregular.

I think it could be the bushing that’s given way so perhaps a new shaft but checking if anyone else has experienced this.

Thanks

So this issue was resolved today. Turned out it had a very rare case of the bushing coming away from the shaft. It wasn’t particularly serious just annoying so opted to replace the shaft and while that was being changed, replaced the bushings that came with the gear lever kit. Gearbox oil (and diff oil) replaced for good measure while at the Indys.

Result = an expensive job for what it was but no turn on the shaft which is rock solid and although gear selection was ok previously with no play (aside from shaft) gear changes now feel more direct and more satisfying so feels as close to how it was when new I imagine. very happy. :driving:
