Gear Selector Switch 1Fault Code

Hi People,
I have run a scanner on my 2009 35i e89 and this code was reported:

GWS(Gear Selector Switch) (1Fault Code)
DTC Description Status
00A830 GWS: Resetting system defective
Fault not currently present

I found this information:
"This fault is set if the GWS shifter cannot return from the Steptronic gate (left position) to the middle position when P is selected. The main reason for this fault is a mechanical blockage. If the shifter is being manually held to the left while the P button is pressed, after five return attempts, the A830 fault will be set with the P indicator flashing. Also, this fault may occur under extreme environmental conditions: extremely high or low ambient temperatures; under voltage conditions; or due to incorrect installation (excessive pressure from the shift gate bezel on the shifter disc)."

My P indicator does not flash though, and I haven't noticed anything wrong with the transmission.

I erased the code but it came back. Does anyone know more about this error?

Thank you

More info:
It seems that if the transmission stick is in Manual mode (to the left), it is supposed to jump back into Park at the touch of the Park button.

Mine makes a little twitch when the button is pressed, but it's not enough to move the stick properly to Park.

I lifted the faux-leather boot and could not see any obstructions or broken wires.

Does it even matter? I don't much see the use of the feature anyway - I have always driven manual shifts.
