Gear lever surround - how to ?

Hi,

I have tried searching, but found anything helpful. The plastic trim around the gear lever that houses the central locking and hazard buttons appear loose on the left hand side. I have tried pressing it down, but without success. Thus, how do I remove this fully (really concerned about snapping any clips) so I can repair or re-fit correctly. Any advice, especially pictures would be really welcome.

Many thanks, James

OT but relevant[ish] :)

I want to replace my gear-knob - I assumed it was just a push / pull fit but I'm b*ggered if I can pull it off - even with the roof down!

Any tips?

Thanks :driving:

I had a right old time trying to get mine off, (swearing and a cussing) reading on here leave it in 2nd or 4th gear etc.
What worked for me (brute strength not required).
Roof down, straddle tunnel, leave in neutral, both hands and pull straight up. (Don't twist or pull at an angle).
After 3 days of trying using brute strength, fearing I was going to break something, it was technique rather than strength that was required.

Pinch the leather gaiter either side of the gear knob.....put it up with a little force! both the gaiter and surround will pop off!

Simples :D

Thanks - I'll try your 'technique' rather than my brute force/twisting/etc. - I'll let you know

Remove the gear knob then use a plastic trim tool (I actually used a precision screw driver with a 1mm head) to push the plastic trim up working around it there are quite a few clips but it comes up easy. It will help to hold through the leather so it doesn't snap back.

Should only take 5 min to remove it (well mine did)
