Gear Lever Removal

Hello All, I'm wanted to change the gear lever on my E89. Just wanted to get confirmation that I need to pull the lever up hard and it will eventually come away? Thanks

I think Smartbear posted a tip on here some time ago
Put the roof down, straddle said knob and pull upwards
Apparently this technique is easier and avoids smacking yourself in the mouth when it eventually and suddenly comes free

Starting at 54 seconds into this video I show how it's done....

So knob/gaiter are integrated on autos as well as manuals and can only really change the whole assembly...

I've not tried to separate them, but they must come apart somehow

Guess you can separate anything if you try hard enough!

Did look to change my own manual one but OE replacement only comes complete with gaiter, plastic surround and some sort of foamy underlay. Costs about £174 though :-o

Whilst my original post was a bit tounge in check it still very true to the question.

On BMW manuals they just pull off, but as someone mentions you can end up smacking your face so be careful 👍
