Gay Pride in London Today

If gay people don't want to be regarded as different, or discriminated against, why do 30,000 of them need to march through the streets of the capital celebrating the fact that they are different?

Just don't see how you can have it both ways (Fnarr, fnarr). Either make a big gay song and dance about it, or just get on with living a normal life.

Any excuse for a party, keep smiling. However I shall decline my invitation to this one. Hope it doesn't rain on their parade, it's peeing down here!

Live and let live. They aren't doing any harm.

Yes I agree with that, but I do wish they wouldn't flaunt it so much

budfox has a very valid point.

I'm not homophobic in any way, in fact I've had some very good friends in the past who happened to be gay, but why should we have it shoved down our throat like this? :o

What's the difference between a gay pride march and a load of people meeting up in a field in Northamptonshire just because they own similar cars?

Agree - live and let live - let's face it these folks were persecuted something awful for bloody years - go for or folks full support

just to be clear, i'm 100% straight.
Yet I take part in gay pride when I can.

it's open to EVERYONE, gay or straight.
Everyone is welcomed in equal measures.

it's about celebrating the fact that people can (just about) be whoever they are, freely, without risk of persecution in this country.
and about fighting for the same rights and lack of discrimination elsewhere.

gay pride isn't about shoving 'gay' anywhere.
it's about celebrating freedom and continuing the fight

You ask why we can't have a "straight pride"?
The answers very simple - when you have a 'straight' civil rights movement, you can have 'straight pride'.

discrimination against gay people still happens. for example, one gay person dies every 12 hours in Brazil...
sure, gay pride is a celebration, but I for one am happy they feel safe and secure enough now to come out and celebrate their sexuality, whatever it is.
however.. it does something else too.. it prompts discussions... discussions such as this. :)

Pull up a sandbag.

When I was in the Royal Air Force in the early years of my career, I was very upset at seeing some excellent guys who I was more than happy to fly with kicked out due to a dogmatic persecutory system which rooted out gays as if they were some systemic disease. They were treated awfully, for what, it's not as if they would try it on or try to convert you. The excuse used was that they had access to Top Secret information during the Cold War and so were open to blackmail. I'm glad those days are over, not sure if it's due to a change in ideology or a desperate need to get numbers up, probably a bit of both, hence why many more roles are opening up to women.

The bad old days eh?

To be fair to all If its their right to celebrate whatever it is they are then maybe there should be a similar day for homophobic,s ?
I wouldn,t attend because of my misanthropy
I can,t get over the basic facts that if it was " normal" & we should all be that way then mankind would have ceased long ago
Leave em to it but i don,t wanna see it

If it was normal? Surely, to someone born Gay, it's perfectly normal
Personally I'm glad that gays are beginning to be accepted in today's society, and I hope that if any of my kids had been
born gay, I would have had the strength to accept it.

do have to say tho... the two topics at the top of my "new posts" page was:

"Gay Pride in London today"
and
"Grin and bear it"

+1 I had a great Uncle that went to prison because of his sexuality. I have relatives that are gay and I support the right for gay pride to be shown on our streets.

Homophobia is slowly weakening , as is sexism and racism. . . .still some way to go though. :(

Unfortunate pun, or was it a gag?
