I'm not sure what to think about this. On one hand I am appalled by the Russian stance on gay rights, including several particularly tactless political statements in the build up to the Olympics, historical and current action to clamp down on gay rights activists and a number of questionable laws and policies that have a mildly homophobic pong about them.
But this...

...what is it all about, really?! :?
I mean, it's not very funny for starters, so it fails as a standalone piece of comedy. Satirical? Well, again it's not particularly well conceived or executed as a piece of satire; especially by the standards of Channel 4 (who just lost John Fortune, one of the all-time greats). If it is supposed to to be massively cringeworthy and prompt a bit of a reaction due to its incredible campness, then yes, it works. But does that make me a homophobe too for feeling that way? Camp != gay.
If it's just supposed to be outrageous and make a big flap to get people talking, then again, yes, I suppose it has succeeded to a degree. It's not as if it's gone viral though; more people are talking about Flappy Birds at the moment than this campaign. So what is it? Just a rubbish promotional stunt on the part of Channel 4, under the guise of a protest against the suppression/persecution of gays and lesbians in Russia?
Maybe I am missing some of the intended "deepness"...
