Gauging value advice for my Z...

Hi all

After two years of great fun and surprisingly low cost motoring I'm thinking about selling my Z and I'm looking for advice on what I should be selling it for... I'm thinking of advertising it for £4,500. Is this realistic? Should it be more/less?

Details as follows:

2003 53 3.0i Auto
Titan Silver
Oregon red leather interior (standard, but heated & elec/mem) with grey dash and carpets
Black hood
Style 107 wheels
Electric folding mirrors
Bi-xenon auto headlights/wipers
Extended hifi with the subs behind the seats
Aux port
Cd changer
Cup holders
Complete 3 piece wind deflector (plastic/mesh type)
Parrot kit
OEM rear spoiler
Some sort of handling package according to the option codes
Thing which opens/closes the roof if you click the key fob 3 times

The car has done 98k. It is totally standard and is in fantastic condition inside and out and has full service history (last one @ Sytner Leicester September last year including brake fluid change). Next service Insp II due in 14,000 miles. It also comes with all the original documentation, loads of receipts, tool kit etc etc.

Recent work:

New electric power steering steering rack with lifetime warranty
New radiator, expansion tank and all hoses (thought it made sense to change everything at the time!)
New brake pads for MOT (April 2016)
AC service (April 2016)
Alternator (January 2016)
Wheel refurb and a couple of small scuffs currently being addressed in a local bodyshop!

I've tried to attach a couple of pics not sure if it'll work on my iPad!

Any advice appreciated!

Thanks :)

Id say it will sell at that price I'm after £6000 with 19" alloys or £5000 with standard 18" alloys for mine its similar colour, age, spec paid abit more for it in January

In that condition and spec, I'd advertise it for £4700 with a view to accepting no less than £4500. If it was heading towards winter, I'd reduce those prices by around £200.

only £200 your kidding right?. I might sell mine in winter then I wouldn't advise that though as I bought mine in January and took me most winter to find a decent one they were either £3500 ones or I just couldn't find any. It wasn't until I joined the forum I realised its a summer car everyone either garages them over winter or just doesn't use them as much if its there weekend car etc. You will get most attention now id say for sale. Either way if its good it will sell itself

£4,500 seems about right. Its creeping up to 100k miles, but its a 3.0 and the right colour with FSH

what do you mean right colour?. Mine is silver it thought that was frowned as many prefer darker colours. When searching I could only see black and grey ones wished id got a black now though instead as my last 3 bmw's have been silver too.

not bad money to fetch for a 13yr old car compared with newer audi,vw etc

I reckon silver is a popular colour - my previous Zed was Titanium Silver and I loved it :)

I've just noticed this has been moved into the buy/sell forum, apologies for posting in the wrong section!

Colour is an interesting topic, even though I own the car silver wouldn't have been my preference (bought on condition) but it's definitely a classic colour for a Z4 and really makes the crazy Bangle lines pop (more so than say a darker red or a blue). I'm not sure if silver is a desirable colour but at least it's not divisive, and it shouldn't affect the resale value too much (as far as I know!)

My favourite colours for a Z are probably bright red, montego blue and the darker greys. Black is ok as long as it's polished!

Why don't these come up when I was looking for one? I was looking for that combination of colour/interior/wheels etc.
I would ask £5K.

No, sonny, I'm NOT kidding! Round my neck of the woods, my assumption is fair. You need to broaden your search areas for these cars as there are plenty for sale in winter and plenty of people use them all year round as a daily driver. I agree that they command a better price in summer for obvious reasons but the said car is 13 years old and near as dammit has hit the sometimes 'difficult' 100k miles club!

That's one way to look at it.... Another way to look at it would be to consider what other roadsters offers the same performance, refinement, reliability and age for the same money.

Here's my summary, based on my own experience:

SLK 230K R170 - Turdy uninspiring engines, build quality not great, rusty and they don't handle anywhere near as well as the Z

986 Boxster 3,2 S - Absolutely weapon, Z destroyer in every way (sorry Z people!) but too dear unless you want a scruffy cat c/d or mega-mileage car

MX-5 - Not as fun to drive, slow and dull (Mk3).

S2000 - Too dear, not as refined

Audi TT Mk1 3,2 - Great tools but as per the Boxster a good one will be out of budget.

That's what went through my head when I bought the Z and I still stand by it, although I'll be buying a 987 S when it sells!
