Gas or coal

For 5 years now I have contemplated buying a gas BBQ. NZ and Saffa reles swear by them. I have a smallish coal webber and it does the job but I like the idea of some week night bbqing which I would only do if I had gas as get home quite late. Thoughts? How many burners? Make and model? Thinking a 2 burner webber jobbie.

We have a gas BBQ.

Great for cooking everything but be weary as it might burn things fast.

Moved over to gas last year, bought a "Swiss grill" from costco, on offer, paid about £300
Always swore never to go down the gas route; but now able to cook at a moments notice.
Took a bit of getting used to to find the "hot spots". Now got it down perfect and would never go back.

I have a gas Webber and it has probably been used more than the average BBQ. It's simple and quick to use when we are away racing. It's best with propane.

We have a gas one. Much simpler and easier.
It does cook in a different way to coals so if you're used to coals you'd have to get used to it. I'm really happy with ours.

Weber charcoal kettle type for home and love the authenticity.
Not legal in Spain where we are, so have a Weber Q220. Excellent piece of kit, if pricey. Recommend it as the quality is as expected from Weber. Everything else when we researched it was really price, looked huge, or cheapo quality.

Get a charcol chimney. Non gas here, but for convience I guess gas cant be beaten. But for referance we still have an open fireplace and windup watches :|

I can highly recommend Outback as a make of gas BBQ

Certainly with gas the "flavour bars" are a big improvement over the old lava rock

I've had a Weber Genesis gas for 6 years now, and use it two or three times a week from Spring onwards - great for cooking quick midweek dinners as well as proper full on meat feasts. I have never cleaned the cooking bars with anything other than a wire brush so they are perfectly seasoned for taste. Yum.
