Garmin nav mount suggestions

Have you checked to see if KUDA makes a mount? They have some cool mounting features for GPS....

Need your advice..I wanted to mount my 660 Nuvi but I wanted to make sure the glare from the sun was minimal depending where I mount it. Plus I don't want it to look stupid and wanted to keep it simple. So what do you think about this http://www.mountguys.com/PhotoGallery.asp?ProductCode=MFX88-Nuvi660
I was thinking of mounting it on the passengers side though no the drivers because the cigarette lighter/charger is on that side and it won't be in my way getting out of the car?

Jeff_Seymour, first, welcome to the finest bunch of Z owners in the Delta quadrant. We, I mean they, know everything Zed.

I used a window mount like Shipkiller has in his photo: bottom left. The unit being detachable from the mount made the choice easy. The roads I took exposed the unit to all the directions the sunlight could give. Dusk may be the only problem for any unit mounted just about anywhere. I wanted it to be in a place that I didn't have to look down to see it. My suggestion is do what I did: window mount, bottom left. Try it and see. The mount you had in that link is rather large and looks permanent. Dunno about that. In the end, personal preferences will take you to what will work best.

20ducks,
I like the idea of not having to look down. I had never thought about that before but was it difficult to run the cable between the glass and dash? How did you do that?

It isn't easy...not hard either. The unit I used battery lasts 4 hours before it needed to be recharged. Perhaps another member could help out with a stealth power supply install.

I wish you guys would make up your minds. :headbang: :poke: I had it on the cup mount on the window as you are now talking about, but people were talking about having it obstruct vision, so I mounded it down out of eye sight. I found it easier to have on the window, but here are the problems I found. It did block my view maybe just for a micro second, but never the less Garmin even warns about doing that. Secondly I found that it stayed put for a long time, but occasionally especially when I hit a bump, it would come lose. Most of the time it stayed on the dash when it did, but still a distraction. :(

I keep my zed in my garage at night and most of every day. When I go someplace I take the Garmin out of the car and carry it or have my wife put it in her purse. Putting it back in place was always kind of a pain being in the window position. It is much easier in the ProClip on the dash and has never fallen off, but can be hit by a passenger easily. I take the audio out of the Garmin and run it into the AUX port so I do not want that cable hanging all over the place and having to route it as well as the power cord. I have the Garmin connected via Bluetooth to my cell phone and want it someplace where not only me but my wife can access it to use the phone. On the window it is very inconvenient for her to use.

So there are pros and cons on both ways but for me, I like it on the dash and not on the suction cup on the window. :)

I trained myself to lower the volume on my stereo when it got to 1.2 miles. Usually at .9 miles I had to pay attention. Then it is back to AC/DC.

I ran my power cable from the glove box through the dash, (pop off the underdash center access plate for easier access) then I removed my instrument cluster, (ONE screw holds it in.... and it just pulls out) and then removed the drivers side air vent. Now you can route the cable all the way through the dash. To get it on top of the dash, I removed the two screws that hold the drivers sun visor in place and then the drivers side A-pillar trim piece just falls out...

This was a very abbreviated how-to... There are several threads on AUX installs and and GPS installs that have pictures....
