Garage to fit upgraded parts

With my Z approaching 100k I’m looking at revitalising it a little and sorting any bits to keep her happy for the next 50k or so!

I’ve just bought the X8R dual vanos repair kit and DISA repair kit, but now struggling to find a garage to fit them. I know X8R provide good instructions but I think messing with the vanos is certainly beyond my mechanical capabilities :? I understand some garages are dubious about aftermarket stuff, but didn’t think it would be this much of an issue.

Any recommendations around Oxfordshire preferably, that anyone has used before?

Also any other advice on bits to look out for or consider replacing around the 100k mark?

Cheers,
Tony

Hi Tony,
Both those jobs are pretty straightforward to anyone mechanically minded.
I know if you drove it to Lincoln [ref]bigwinn[/ref] would do it, or if you came as far as Norfolk I would.
However, for you it may be easier to get to RBM, in Hook, Hampshire. Ross is a forum member and runs his own business. You would pay a little more I'd guess, but would have the guarantee that enthusiasts like me could only give verbally.
However, if you fancied a long weekend on the Broads and wanted to drop your car off....................... just saying................

Thank you, really appreciate the offer but probably a little too far. Unless I can convince my missus we need a dirty weekend in Norfolk! I’d obviously tell her the dirty part was engine oil, once we got there :D

I’m willing to give any job a go and read through numerous posts and guides on here, but stories of sheared bolts and dropping engines down terrified me!

I did call Ross today to be fair, but when he called me back I was out in the Z and my signal was awful. I then plum forgot to call back again. I’ll ring tomorrow, as I’ve taken my car to RBM before so know they are top-notch  I just assumed I would have the same struggles as other BMW specialists round by me have refused to touch any parts not provided by them…

Sounds like the best solution for you really. The disa upgrade is about 30 minutes work and for Ross I reckon about 4 hours for the vanos. The annoying part of that is that the actual seal replacement takes about 10 minutes 🙄

In my experience a lot of garages won't fit customer supplied parts, as they want the mark up on them.

I don't know if they are still around, but 'Steve Hill Motorsport' between Thame and Aylesbury were always fantastic for me when I lived in the area. They had a couple of mechanics who were absolute geniuses with anything IMO.

Just to update, spoke to Ross at RBM and his response was ‘we’ve done loads of them’!

Booked in for 20th February
