Garage sealant

Right, I managed to move a load of stuff from the garage and clear out all the old crap. Actually managed to fit a car in the garage for the first time!
Bit of a squeeze going in!

Which leads me onto my next question... As with most new builds the floor is quite dusty concrete. Can anyone recommend anything to seal the floor with?

go to b and q and buy a tub of pva. mix 1/4 of it in a tub with a a gallon of water and apply liberally, i just slop it on with an old wall paper brush. you'll have enough for a few coats easy and it will kill all the dust. i have to re-apply every year or so but it costs <10 for the pva and is a great and easy way to stop the problem.

on my second coat when wet i shoved a load of old carpet tiles down and the garage is now a great place to work on the car.

Also stick some old carpet on the wall where your door opens. It'll save the door edge from inevitable damage against the bricks.

+1 i do this makes a massive difference, also you can line the door up with it up when driving in thus stops you hiting anything with the front end!

I have memory foam at the end of garage, covered by an old yoga mat, but would definitely echo protecting the doors and ends from the walls.

I have a tennis ball hanging from a roof joist that once it touches the screen the car is perfectly positioned. Even now I sometimes wonder, WTF is that bright yellow tennis ball hanging in mid air for :?

Why not use some garage floor paint? Might need to prime the floor first, but wont need re-doing for years, if at all.

for me: 1. its not my garage, 2.it costs a bomb so see (1), 3.pva costs chuff all see (1),3, in the past paint has always come off for me. 4 i put carpet tiles down as doing the westy you tend to sit on the floor so its nicer and they were free so the pva stuck them down a bit

I've looked at the garage floor paint, and all of it seems to get mixed reviews and at 40 notes a tin I wouldn't want to redo it, at a few quid I don't mind a few hours on my day off every year or so.

I'm sure I didn't pay anywhere near £40 for my paint, but it was about 12 yrs ago....

Hasn't needed re-doing either....but then I don't keep the car in the garage.

Do you mean things like leaves getting in under the gap? We've got 2 up and over doors (each end of the garage, guy before us was a twat). Often get leaves etc coming through.

Tried some draft excluders once but they weren't very successful. Seen an ad on ebay for a piece of rubber that sticks to the floor and provides a "lip" for the door to close against, but I don't know if you can drive over it, and I haven't got the link anymore (didn't get it).

I had access to some cheap floor paint when I did my garage so can't comment on other treatments. However I would suggest painting the walls and roof/ceiling white with the cheapest silk emulsion you can find. It's amazing how much cleaner and brighter it is!

I don't have leave issues as I have a roller door with a concertina rubber strip at the bottom - provides a good seal. Would think the same seal would be available for other door types?

My garage door (pricey) has a sort of black rubber tube the runs along the bottom edge. It compresses when the door shut and create a seal. A piece of rubber pipe 1" diameter, glued on would do the same perhaps?

Yep, this is what I'm after. Zed Five, is yours just glued or drilled into the floor? Wondering if it will give way when driven over (as Kevin said)

it was the car in my dads garage that lifted the paint.

a brush strip should sort out the leaves and stuff getting in underneath.

on an up and over door like that i also use these bolts they are super discrete and embed well into the frame for peace of mind
