Garage refuses to fit non-RFTs?

Hi

Ordered a pair of MPS4S last week for my fronts, and the guy from Tyres on the Drive (Halfords) has refused to fit them because "the car is set up for run flats, if you put these on you'll ruin your wheel bearings" - is this a load of BS?? I've had the same Pilot Sports on the rear since 2019 with no issues I'm aware of.

Thanks

I will! They were a good price too. It's either these then or some Goodyear Eagle F1's - best to keep the same brand across both axles?

Seriously? Or should this be posted in “ on the lighter side” section

I even asked him if he'd fit them if I already had non-RFTs to which he said yes, but he meant any old car, not my EXACT car because "head office will know when they run the plate through the system"!!!! I gave up in the end and will go elsewhere.

:headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

Currently on hold while she checks which tyres are suitable for my car!! Let me guess......Runflats???

Ok so they said they would do them and I should have been given the choice, but can't come back out today so I've just told them to refund me. I'll pay the extra £40 and get them done by my trusted guys over the road.

Never again!

have to go elsewhere.

personally, i'd have no problem having michelins on the back and goodyears on the front. both are exceptional tyres. i'd draw the line at premium tyres on one axle and budgets on the other though.

It wasn't much more for the Michelin's so for the sake of them all matching I've gone with those.

Have you got nice wheels by any chance?

Runflats have much stiffer walls on the tyres, and can be an absolute bastard to get off. It might be that his mobile kit slips when taking the tyres off the wheels and scrapes the inside of the wheel, and he is just making up an excuse not to do it for fear of it coming back on him. Alternatively, he just hates removing runflats from wheels and tried to find a weasel way out.

Same as the ones on this, can't remember the code. 19" and not in bad nick, bit of bubbling since the last refurb but no kerbing:

Some would say, that’s as good/bad as having RFT on one axle and non-RFT on the other :P

Slightly off topic, there’s a great Tyre Review video on the comparison between the M3/M4 OEM PS4S and the normal PS4S which are almost two different tyres with different characteristics.

I never imagined there were runflat & non runflat wheel bearings available, everyday’s a school day

I had some push back from Kwikfit when I changed all my potenzas to MPS4, they said it’s “changing the spec of the vehicle”

I told them to just get on with it, and they did.

National wanted me to sign a disclaimer when I changed my Pirellis to Goodyear Eagles, I said fine and funnily enough the disclaimer didn't appear

So a few years ago, Goodyear Fs Asymmetric 2s were only available in an MO or Mercedes OEM fitment, on the back for my Z4M.

I ordered them and took them around to the local genius bar.

The conversation went like this:

"er, these are for a Mercedes mate". I replied,"yeah I know."
"your car ain't a Merc, it's a Beemer". Yeah, just fit the fcukers.
"Well I'll have to talk to the boss"..

15 mins later they were fitted. God damm it!

You should not mix runflats on one axle and std tyres on the other. No decent dealer will fit them to only one axle, I had this problem with my first zed. Not one dealer in my area would do it, apart from the dodgy used tyre place, also asked Michelin who stood by the tyre fitters advice.
