Garage Parking Advice

Over the weekend i tried parking my E89 in my very narrow garage at home to prepare for winter hibernation in October, the car will drive in but as you can see i cannot open the door to get out so i tried the same procedure done on my old e85.

I pushed the old car into the garage with car in neutral and handbrake off boot open then when fully in chocked the wheels applied trickle charger closed boot and all was good, now the e89 is Auto and has electronic handbrake so i left car in neutral and pushed the car in but then i have no room to open the door to put in park position and put handbrake on close window and then take the key out :headbang:

Any ideas on the best solution for this that i could try?

Put the roof and windows down, push the car in, squeeze down the side, apply handbrake (optional) put in park and remove key, you could always throw a sheet over the open top.
 
Here comes the lid off another can of worms, but..................

Surely your E89 wil require the trickle charger to be connected under the bonnet, so you're in even more of a fix to access that.

On a separate note, I hope those shelves are sturdy and the contents well balanced if you're putting your car in there. :wink:

Yes was thinking of this but would prefer the top and windows up in the winter months.

Yes just made sure that shelving is secure with new stronger rails and brackets.

May look into this, although I can get the roof to raise using the key in drivers door but not enough room in garage :headbang:

Yes I have a door leading to kitchen, so can attach trickle charger under bonnet.

My garage is bigger but still a bit tight, I've fitted plumbing pipe down the sides of the garage at door height and then put heavy duty pipe lag on them. Least the doors are protected from chips and dents when I squeeze in

I just used 'No more nails' and stuck a large square of foam straight to the wall.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Some of my best times in my old Z3 were in winter, top down, heated seats on and feel the wind.
The Z4 has got a proper hard top so it's just like driving a conventional car with it up, but when it's dry it's time to go topless 👌
 
If you reverse in would you have more room on the other side away from the ladders?
We have always reversed into our garage.

Only downside is that you fumigate the kitchen then, but for hibernation purposes I guess it only happens twice a year.

Can't you close the roof remotely from outside the car anyway?

Will try this but found it easier to push car in using the boot rather than the bonnet.

Can use the key in drivers door to close roof but not enough clearance in the garage.
