Garage Floor

I am having an attached garage built for the Z4 and I am looking for ideas for the floor. I do not want just a concrete floor but something a lot nicer. The money pit is more like a puddle, so it needs to be good value for money as well.

Any recommendations and what to avoid for a garage floor?

Mine was about £1200 for the tiles (7 * 6 meters), however on hindsight I would have spent the £2k to avoid the staining that the tyres give on the non ceramic tiles.

Definitely recommend a well finished concrete floor with inter-locking plastic tiles (5 - 8mm thick), I paid £720 for a large double garage using light and dark grey tiles to define the areas, laid them myself and the supplier chamfered the leading edges at the entrance.
Only word of caution is that where the car wheels rest, there is some reaction between the tyres and tile which cause discolouration, I was warned about this by the supplier and he recommended a very dark colour where the wheels are parked.
Otherwise easy to clean and even after 3 years still look good.

How about an epoxy finish on top of polished concrete? Great finish, very tough, wipes clean, loads of colours / designs feasible if you like.

Examples (loads of others):

My cars have very different wheel basis lenghts, that is causing an issue as the tyres are resting in different locations.

Not had that problem as its the same car(s) since the floor was laid, not quite true but the difference between Z3 and Z4 is minimal.
The discolouration on mine is not a disaster and I've always thought if it gets too bad, just lift and replace the offending tiles, but I've learn't to live with them.
Actually all the discoloring happens in the first six months.

Lived in the same house for 20+ years and lost track of the number of times I painted the garage floor. Never go down that route again.

Painting is indeed useless. Winter tyres rip it off in no time, no matter what paint.

My garage is the double, that is my issue. The X5 needs tiles and one level, but the Porsche is shorter so would need the tiles a line lower so to speak, which would look odd halfway through.

I painted my garage floor with paint from screwfix. Think it was called Leyland frigate grey. Been fine with my car in there.

Only things that ruined it were dragging metal across it. Easy enough to re-coat.

Halfords are doing some cheap garage floor tile packs at the moment, made by rolson. Probably no good for driving on though.

I saw these last week and thought they look a good buy for the money, a quick look at the reviews and they have been used as garage flooring, so presumably driven on.
The spec. doesn't give the thickness but if they are 5mm or more they ought to be OK. I believe they are made from recycled plastics so you could be considered eco friendly as well.

I have dark blue interlocking tiles, some discolouration but it's neither here or there. I can just replace those tiles if it ever bothers me as I have some left over :)

I couldn't have tiles of any kind in my garage, they'd get wrecked in no time so I tend to keep it painted then when it gets chipped i just touch it up. I completely re-did it just a few weeks ago. Problem is that most paints are water based now (there are epoxy based ones out there but you have to search them out) I managed to find some old solvent based stock in a local store - grabbed the last two tins of red they had.

That's the garage hoover  It was only up there while the floor was being painted - honest! :)

What's wrong with throwing sawdust down and sweeping it back up again?

I actually know of a quite hi tech printers that still does this :o :o :o
