Totally out of order, I really dread MOTs knowing some stranger is going to be crawling all over and driving my pride and joy

Why driving? The MOT does not include any driving.

Quite a few garages take them to other testing stations and have a play on the way.

Sorry for the late reply guys!

So, needless to say, I went off on one when in the office, was an independent dealer.

Some of you may have seen my post the other day about not hearing anything from an inde re: collecting my car. Following on from that, I booked my zed in with a different garage to have the MOT and headlight washer repair done as I was so annoyed with the last people.
Putting trust into a new garage, this was the last thing I expected!!!

The driver of the car apologised to me, before and after I laid into him some! The garage agreed I would not be paying the labour cost of the work done.

Still in shock really that some idiot believes that driving someone's elses car in that manor is acceptable! If someone had told me they'd seen my car being driven like that, I wouldn't have believed them! But only the fact I'd seen it with my own eyes! :o

In two minds whether to send them the bill for my next set of rear tyres...

That's disgraceful, I'd have been close to either hitting someone, or calling the police. You don't f**k with someone else's property, especially when it's entrusted to your care. I hope they didn't run any red lights with cameras or pick up a fine somewhere else. That'll be a PITA to sort. Shame you didn't have a dash cam... At least they didn't charge for the work, but that's really not the point.

SOunds like youve had some bad garage experiences. Im sure someone here can help point you towards a more reputable localish indie!

If you have an LSD they can't do the roller test for the brakes, or they shouldn't due to risk of damage. A test drive using a device in the passenger footwell to test the brakes should be used.

the stations I've used have done this in their yard just driving a few yards, but I remember somebody on here who's car went awol for 20 minutes during a MOT.

That's true, although I once did repair work on a Noble that went to have its MOT, the garage took it out for the brake test, drove it far too fast and crashed it to the extent that the insurance company wanted to write it off :headbang:

It beggars belief that they would drive someone else's car like that...

I'm not too far from you (Salisbury) and I use an Indy in Botley. He's done work for me before on my old E46 and can recommend him if you want.

P.s what zed have you got? I'll keep an eye out for you on the roads.

I had a Saab a few years ago that the dealer returned from the workshop to my office. Dropped off with brakes tinkling and smell of burning. The lad was proud he'd had 'a fantastic run' Shame as my new disks and pads were probably shot...
Needless to say one rant later a full set of discs and pads and a tank of fuel was sorted out.

Lad got a written warning which they showed me...

I was astounded that someone would drive it like that, but as others have said it's just a car to them and they are only human, despite the job title...

In terms of Mot's - my Jeeps are road tested as the trans can get wound up and bust on rollers...

to be honest i stay while the car is being MOT'd, if for any reason the car was going to be test driven, id actively ask for the MOT to be abandoned as the car has never been driven before on an MOT.

Walking down the road to collect my zed from a garage this afternoon from having some work done to it, when I saw a z4 come flying past me, doing well over the speed limit (30), stopping to let the car in front turn off and then revved to buggery and wheelspinned off! :o got to the garage only to confirm it was my zed out on a test drive by the garage I was picking it up from!!!! :o speechless!!! :o

sounds about right, its the kinda car they wanna take out "lets see how quick these are" etc, pick your garage carefully

That's interesting, I never knew that.

Apart from ABS the only 'teckie' part on my E30 M3 was LSD, it never went on a test drive for its MOT [I never left her alone with strangers :) ], it was just on the pad, and the LSD afterwards was always fine.

the garage i take the westy too takes it out for the brake test. they told me that they would be doing that after they tried to get it onto the rollers and couldnt :D
