GapTech not working properly

I've been watching the video of the GapTech control (which I have the full one on mine), and it appears mine isn't working properly.

For one, I can't get it to open or close via the remote. Is it tricky to get the timing right?

More importantly, the windows don't go back up after the operation has completed from within the car. Now, the one touch also isn't working, so could this be causing the problem?

I see there is a procedure to try to fix the one-touch operation - Do people think this would resolve the problems?

No, sounds like you have a bad connection in the setup. The open / close and one touch all seem very reliable once the connections are actually made.

Did you solder them?

It was installed already when I got the car, so no idea how it was fitted. I'd have to ask.

Will the procedure in the How To section resolve the one touch issue at least?

I would be surprised as the signals are generated by the module to close the roof.

You can obviously attempt the windows reset, you can't harm anything with that.

Re the timing for remote opening, count slowly so you don't click too quick between the 3 clicks.

Seems odd that the single touch roof operation works from inside, but the windows don't do anything though. Is it not one module?

Are you sure you've got the gaptech? The guy only made them in the last 6 months or so and you said it was in the car from when you bought it. Could it be that you've got the reinhold module - can't remember how It's spelt. It might behave slightly differently.

IK there is adjustable timing IIRC so you can set it not to raise the windows after lowering the roof.

Have you spoken to the previous owner about it?

Oh, I hadn't realised that! I'll message him in that case! (Just conscious I didn't want to keep bothering him!)

How do you do that? I would love it if my windows stayed down after lowering the roof 8)

IK. - as PVR said - have you had a look at the gaptech unit and checked the connections? It would only take you 5 mins to check them and bad connections would be the most likely issue.

The original unit is supplied with 'in-line' style connectors which, whilst neat and convenient, don't (in my experience) always make the best connection. In the end I soldered and insulated.

Where can I check the connections? I didn't fit it, so I'd need to take a look. I've not got instructions, either.

If you remove the ashtray and housing it will be sitting under there.

I'm sure somebody will post the instructions, or you could PM gaptech

Well, we know who the previous owner is and we know how good he is with directions :D

I'm pretty sure the GapTech guy hangs out here now and then - seemed a really decent chap to deal with when I bought mine so if you drop him a line either through here or the GapTech website he may be happy to send you the install instructions.

However, easy check you can do...whip out the ashtray, remove the single screw...it should all be sitting under there - see what kind of connectors have been used and whether or not it looks like a neat job. Not casting aspersions on whoever did the install but everyone has a different approach - I tend to do a temp fit to make sure everything works and then go back and solder / permanently connect once I'm happy.

If you really have no look I'll be doing some work on my car over the next few weeks so should be able to get a photo of the installation.
