I've been puzzling over this since I first read it last night, and I just can't understand WHY you would want/need to do this.

I've done a fair amount of work on car electrics over the years, and I have always soldered my connections using a mains soldering iron (ScotchLocks are an utter, utter bodge - they should be banned!). While I have seen general advice about disconnecting the battery before doing any work to car electrics (in case you accidentally connect something incorrectly), I have never before seen any specific advice to disconnect the battery before using a mains soldering iron.
