Galaxy S3 Bluetooth?

Wondering if anyone has managed to pair their S3 with the factory hands free system? Would love to know if it can be done.

Does anyone have any recommendations on an alternative hands free system? Parrot?

All the best!

I use a Parrot Evolution BT module, with the microphone in the OEM factory (steering column) mic enclosure. I have it wired to the head unit with a Connects2 harness so it works with the steering wheel controls for OEM functions like call originate/answer, hangup, redial, and volume.

My BT phone is an iPhone 4S that is wired through a Mediabridge 1500 to the head unit via the CD changer connections, but your Galaxy should work fine through the AUX head unit connection. The hardwired dock connection I have through the Mediabridge additionally charges the phone and displays music info on the HU.

I don't use the Parrot's contacts directory, or built-in voice commands. I use the phone's contacts and Siri voice control (via the steering wheel phone buttons) to dial and receive calls, send/receive and read texts, get weather, set reminders, control music, request turn-by-turn GPS navigation, etc. The Parrot mutes the music automatically (regardless of source - FM, AUX, CD, Mediabridge/iphone) for incoming calls, or when voice control is used via the 'talk' button on the steering wheel.

The Mediabridge actually has BT capability for both phone and streaming audio, but I don't use them. It doesn't allow for full use of the OEM steering wheel controls, can only receive calls /mute etc. when the head unit is on the Mediabridge input. I also like the wired audio quality via direct connection.

This setup works perfectly for me - the phone is a lot smarter than the factory media/phone solution ever was, and the manufacturer keeps upgrading the firmware to add more features ...

Got a samsung galaxy note 2 which has paired fine with the factory BT

My S3 pairs fine with mine.. It's the factory BT equipment.

Phonebook comes through ok too.

What version BT (generation or part number) is fitted to your car(or any other cars that are able to factory BT connect with current Android BT phones) as I want to retofit the BT but there are so many versions out there, Im not sure from what genration onwards I should be looking for.

I don't want to go the 3rd party route as I'm happy with the rest of the setup so don't need USB or iPod connectivity.

Thanks,

Billy

Err. It will be on the sticker but as the unit is fitted behind a cradle, don't think you can get to it.

Was your bluetooth factory fitted and if so, what year is your car as I might be able to find out from BMW what generation was fitted to them.
. Thanks

Hi, Mine is July 2005. I have only owned it for the last year but I know it is original factory fit equipment. I have the docs to prove it.

Cool,

The one I have seen for sale is from 2008 so should work.

My Z's also a 2005 with navigation but no bluetooth. Gonna have a look in the back to see if I have the harness already fitted and if so, get the unit.

Thanks.

Starting to think this is never going to work :( .

Perhaps I need to reset the BT? Anyone done that before?

Not an S3 but paired my new BB Z10 earlier today with no problems, not sure how many phones can be paired with the system maybe it's reached it's max :?

Delete all previous pairings and try again. If the phone is asking for confirmation for access to the phone book, you might need to make the car a trusted device

Hi,

I have an 05 with Nav and Bluetooth (the ULF is a 5th generation version - full list of versions avaliable from http://www.bimmernav.com/ulfchanges.html) and the phone (Vodafone branded S3) pairs ok for voice but never prompts for access to contacts like my old parrot used to do.

I can push my contacts to it (put the car into pairing mode and send all contacts via Bluetooth) however I get an incomplete list and multiple entries for people with more than one number.

I have factory reset my phone and also deleted all pairings for the car but still get the same result.

Just interested in other peoples results with different versions ULF's of Phone software versions and some forums seem to suggest this could be the issue.

Thanks
Ed

Any idea what version ULF you have or what the build date of your car was by any chance?

My phone book thus voice control isn't working so trying to pin it down to something

Tried clearing my pairings again and still no joy. When i use the voice button i get no response, anyone else got any other experiences from the S3 and factory fitted BT?

After much toil and three BMW sales people helping I do indeed have my S3 working with a 58 plate car and standard fitted BT.

If I get some time tomorrow I shall try to record you a video of me doing it matey.

Hi Mike,

That would be great, but I don't want to cause you trouble. Did you do anything special apart from putting the car into pairing mode? I can get mine to do that but not snyc the phonebook.

Cheers
Ed
