Any good? In bed so can’t watch yet...
Just watching it in bed. :D Mr Sutcliffe loves it, reckons it's at least as fast as an M2 and thinks BMW may finally have built a proper sports car that can take it to the coxter. :driving:

From what I could gather from that it is bigger, heavier, uglier than the 35is but handles better because the roof is made of an old blanket.
It also doesn't come with a manual box so rules out anybody wanting a modern m model.

You’re on the fence for now then ?

Unless I’m wrong a 35is is 1605kg and this new car 1500kg. How can you tell it’s uglier? no ones seen it yet... :?

I was basing these on comments to the reporters column.
He said they have seen the finished model and that the front end overhangs and is ungainly. This isn't really a word you would use to describe pretty.
So I will take out the heavier bit if that's wrong. :D
And the blanket part was just a childish dig at softtops. :)
It will be interesting to see the finished article and also interesting in how it sells.
The reporter obviously wasn't a fan of the E89.

I think I would be on the fence for a while after the release.
Some things take a while to grow on you and I couldn't afford a new one anyway.

I like it! Z40i for under £40k, pretty good IMO. The new ///M model might even force the sale of my current Z4m... :innocent:

Definitely will be down to my local dealers for a test drive

I don't know why, but I didn't like the author's writing style in this article - using silly synonyms to try and sound a bit different (and possibly a little 'Clarkson'). It stopped me from believing what the author was saying.

I think I'll just wait to see the car for myself and decide whether I like it or not

Yeah, same, although not sure I could be tempted to sell.

£40k is ok, but I wonder if you get the nice leather steering wheel boss, door cards etc with that. Same for adaptive suspension. Leaves a lot of room for Cayman-baiting extras if you ask me!

The piston heads article author definatly has a hatred of hard tops saying the e89 one was full of problems. Erm, less than the e85 if what i have seen is true

The overall review is promising though and I really am looking forward to seeing the finished product

"... much more aggressive to look at" - can't wait for the pics coming soon.
And did you hear that exhaust note?
Shut up and take my money

Edit - just realised the exhaust/engine note in the cabin with the roof up is 'fake' - oh well... :?

I saw a few of them on the Ring in Germany. They’re definitely quick and will easily sell, especially the Z4 40i at just under £40,000. I presume the M model will be around the £50,000 mark like the M2.

If the Z4M has the new M2 Competition engine that would be a cracker!

Not a fan of manufactures phasing out the manual gearbox though :?

Here’s the Z4 Concept that I saw at the BMW Museum in Munich.

I'm interested to see if the production version keeps those curved humps behind the roll hoops - its a lovely feature, but I'm not convinced they will survive the mechanics of raising and lowering the roof.
EDIT: just noticed the camouflaged test car doesn't have them so obviously another case of a photo-type bearing little or no resemblance to the production car

There isn't going to be a full fat ///M though, just the M140i at the top of the range. Which is a bit of a shame.
