Last weekend, I saw a sixties American car that had a very similar grille. I think that's where Mercedes must have gotten the idea from.

It looks better on the E89 then the G29 although I still prefer the traditional ones with vertical bars after all it is one of the identifying features of a BMW.

Only redeeming feature for me is that you've retained the original shape.
I too, think the vertical slats are a BMW identifier.

So it's a no from me I'm afraid.

I can’t say I like it. I always thought the grill design on the Z4 Zagato Coupe looked rather good. The front end looks amazing but the rear not so good. An incredible paint job though.

From head on the E89 is the best looking Zed. 8) IMHO. The back though looks like they just left it to porsche to finish. : :wink:

Until recently I only saw Mercedes with this type of grill. Recently some new BMWs have appeared with a similar design. So, just based on my personal observation: (1) Mercedes copied a fifties US design, and then (2) BMW copied the Mercedes approach. Maybe I got it all wrong but that's what I saw over the past year here in California.
