Whatever the pic - i'd say it should be something high revving, a screamer. The m156 was more of a joke, though would be entertaining in a different way. Both M3 V8 and RS4 V8 would suit the nature of the car (kinda like an advance on the S54..).

Judd V8, all 11000rpm of it, on a sequential box with a commode for a drivers seat!

Humm i am not so sure I like big fat torque. Somthing that goes without having keep changing down if you dont want to. Dont get me wrong i dont want lazy. But i dont want something that has to be above 6krpm to get any power out of it.

RB26? 6 cylinders, twin turbo, stock internals take a good chunk of power.
Saw one in an e30 years back, never seen another in a BMW though.

ahh - the thing i love about the zed is the high revving nature :D my C63 is great but feels more like a cruiser bruiser than a sportscar.

To be fair I should trust your opinion you have 2 of my 5 favourite cars!!

s65 stroker gets my vote. With a titanium exhaust.

Finances are the killer with that. I think i hope i will have about 3k to spend. And with doing the work myself and begging favors. I think both the 1UZ or a turbo should be achievable for about that.

Seems like the S65 is around 5k - but there are the odd one selling at around 1k but no idea what state they're in.

I only really suggest the BMW engines as they match the character of the car, and perhaps theres some (naively) compatibility benefits to sticking with a BMW engine. I am probably totally wrong - you know i'm not mechanical :D

I wonder if the 1UZ is the same engine that i once drove in a lexus 4.0 V8? sounded good. Do you have a target BHP in mind?

It would be nice to stay with a BMW engine. But we my mate and i have no point of reference with them. And the 1uz we do also from an ecu point of view the guy doing the work knows them inside out and has said it would be easier to get it to work. Easier than with a turbo on my engine even.

It would have been the same engine. But the auto box saps power and life from the engine. Power wise the one in the supra is make 280bhp and 290ft lb thats with a plenum we made a similar ecu and coil on plug and larger injectors from a rx7. Witch i modified to fit and are really cheap. Like i say we have a bit experience with this engine.

We also have a S/C manifold that i can re manufacture and buy a Eaton s/c and for not much extra cash 400bhp and similar torque is easily achievable on stock engine.

To get to 400bhp on a m54 would require quite a bit of internal engine work. People have run them at close to 400bhp with a turbo set up on stock internals but they are not so reliable.

Nice, i'd say ~400bhp is probably a decent amount for the car - beedub may have some useful comments there though i've always felt like 500+ is too much for a little zed.

Sounds like you know the 1uz well - makes it a nice easy choice then!

Yeah i agree 350 would probably be enough. 400 would be about at the limit I think.

Yeah we do have experience with them. But i cant help thinking i am getting rid of a bloody good engine that could be awesome!!

I'd love to put the N54 twin turbo engine in to my coupe with a light remap to take the power to 350 bhp and A load of torque. I think it would make for an awesome car and I can't believe BMW never did it. There must be a good reason to why they didn't do it but I have no idea why!

Sure your mate Chris knows plenty about them. I know Steve Sadler does

Yeah they do. But i dont think i want less pistons.

Steve is not doing the ecu. But he did map the supra on Saturday. I couldn't be there unfortunately  There have been a few late night recently working on that. Its at kop hill this weekend. We need to fit a clutch line and bled it tonight. Test drive it a little before it goes. And flat and polish the whole car!! Might be a late night again tonight

Sorry for the slightly off topic question, but would you ever consider a hybrid turbo?

I know you already know your turbo in mention + remap, but could a hybrid turbo reduce lag etc. From what I gather you can use quite a powerful one too with minimal lag.

I'm far from a mechanic, but just would like to know your views if you have had any experience with them at all.
