Good to hear, though you probably all knew it anyway ..

But not the roadster they say. Am sure the halo from the coupe will extend to the roadster though.
Really wish i bought one sooner, though i see a nice rare white coupe has just appeared on another topic... :) Would it be selfish to own a roaster and a coupe ?

You'll have to wait another 10y + before its considered classic and even then it will only be the M due to rarity factor
Then you have factor what you've spent on maintenance ,tax insurance etc and effect of mileage -and what you would have made if you had invested the money in markets ,inflation etc in the long term
But if you like the look if it and enjoy driving it that's another story altogether and easy to justify

For as long as I am in possession of (most of) my faculties I will never buy a Zed Coupe, but that will be before I would even look at a Honda Insight! What a supremely ugly car.

Not surprised at all at the Lupo gti.

Given the number that have been modded, abused, etc little wonder.

Classic status is a very personal thing, surely the starting point is a car being one that you always REALLY wanted but for whatever reason couldn't have (price/practicality etc) or was the best of it's type, several of that lot don't fit my test for sure! :o

The Z4 is obviously and as we know any rag top becomes 'classic' after a few years

Seems if you wait long enough, everything becomes a classic - providing it's doesn't return to its ferrous roots :-)

I think a distinct design (eg lupo) has a big influence though, and in our case we have Bangle to thank for creating a striking design that was ahead of its time. I believe it was much derided when launched but now really stands out as a cracking piece of automotive sculpture. Still think the rest of bangles work was sh*te :-)

Have you seen some of their other picks.
Skoda Fabia, Ford Puma, Audi A2, VW Lupo.

That's what I was thinking ..
Who is this guy?
I only agreed with the Zed,Miata and the MR2.
Classic E86 Coupe or Classic E85 Roadster ...mmm....
I think they both have their merits, but which is best ?
Consider a Jag XKE Coupe vs Roadster ..Well the Roadster has it in spades.

Personally I bought my Zed to drive and have fun.
As an investment ? Ha Ha
Remember the lardy depreciation from new ?

True, but the old timers amongst us remember the ones that got away, in the distant past I turned down a 1964 911 in usable condition for £5k FFS! now worth? well I won't torture myself but $200,000 has been paid for a restored early model, and a mate has a Mk1 Lotus Cortina insured for £80k ....... they were a few hundred quid at one time!

It's a nice feeling that perhaps my dream car won't depreciate too much over the (hopefully) years of ownership. It's hardly an investment of course.

I bought my old 944 S2 for 5k in 2005, sold it for a bit less as it needed some work, now they're somewhere north of 8k to buy with higher mileage than mine. I think we might be looking at a similar situation with the zed.

Nice to know. My father has already said he wants to buy mine off me when I come to sell. I don't have the space to keep an appreciating asset so give it a few years of fun and it'll go to a garage in Cheshire!

I feel i wont just be the ///Ms that become a classic, with petrol and car Taxes due to high emissions getting more expensive, then an apeal of all engine sizes will be present in "Classic Z4"

All Z's will eventually become classic, much in the same way that any well looked after 40+ year old car today will be a classic. But with 20,000+ E85's around they will take a lot longer to become 'classics' than the M's will.

I doubt it - look at the Porsche 914 - the 4 cylinder is worth ~£10k-15k in mint condition, the 6 cylinder is worth over £50k. And that's a car that the Porsche fanatics have grown to like only recently.

Anything but an M will be a longer game than most will want to play. The Z3M (especially the coupe) show that the time for the Z4M isn't that far off, particularly as the last naturally aspirated six ///M with a manual gearbox. All the others will play second fiddle, but the sixes will be far more sought after than the fours.

Yep, all well and good talking about the 6 cylinder models - the M50 is already revered in the E30 and E34 for example, and the M52 and M54 will follow suit, but the 4cylinder?

If the Valvetronic units and eccentric shafts haven't blown up then maybe they will be a classic, but then there'll only be a few left by then.

"Classic" is a relative, subjective term. I wouldn't want a coupe, new or old, anymore than I would want a 70s Corvette or Datsun 240Z. Some people love those "classics," others don't. For me, "classic" just means old.

The Z4 will be eternally stylish and sporty, me thinks. But for me, that only extends to the roadster, M or not. :fuelfire:
