Where is the fuse 'box' on a 53 plate 3.0? Anyone help please?

The manual says to squeeze the sides of the glove box, but the sides are very rigid and nothing happens.

The fuse for the cigarette lighter (aka the aux power socket) has gone and I need to have the Sat Nav powered for our break in a few days time.
 
Have a look at the diagram here and it will give you more of an idea of what you are trying to do to release the glovebox down, it's not the sides but the catches are at the top, one of each side

Deja vous! I had the exact same problem - cig lighter fuse went and I needed the sat nav in my 53 Z4.

It's very straightforward once you've opened the glove box - the clip is on the piston, labelled 5 in the link posted by Wondermike. There's a diagram of the fuse layout behind there too.

You should find some spare fuses in the boot, tucked away next to the battery.
 
P.S. I know this is stating the obvious, but don't forget that diagram is for a left hand drive car so you need to reflect the image.
 
Thanks again. Found the correct clips (why oh why is the manual wrong???) with Wondermike's help. Fuse replaced and Sat Nav working, but why did the unit cause both a 15A main fuse and a 5A in-line fuse to fail? My wife was driving her car and in full control of the Sat Nav, but.........

Has anyone else successfully found their way to the fuses in an E85 ? I've tried understsanding the instructions above and those in the Z4 manual but I cannot fathom out what I am suppose to be doing to get the glove box out of the way to get at the fuses.

Am I supposed to pull the piston away from the side ?...it feels like I am going to break something when I do that.
 
There is a catch at the end of the piston (number 11) which you squeeze together to release the piston from the socket. The catches can then be used to drop it all down. Shout back if you're still stuck.

I've I sorted it out after asking the question. But all I did was push in a couple of catches at the back of the roof of the glove box and then it all fell down as it should to expose the fuse box. I didn't have touch the pistong, that just came apart on the way down.

And the instructions in the Z4 manual are complete nonsense. Anybody else trying to get to the fuse box, ignore the manual or you will end up breaking something.

Gents, Once I've dropped the glove box out of the way, where oh where is this fuse diagram of which you speak? Mine is a US car.

I think from memory there is a paper diagram in the fuse box. My spare fuses and fuse puller tool was still in its plastic bag in the boot. Previous owner had never even noticed or had to change a fuse.
