Fun with turning off the DTC...

I fully turned off the DTC on the weekend, loved it - if you haven't tried it give it a go - my off the mark acceleration feels much quicker without that little power dip I normally get from my automatic...(opens self for digs from manual owners)

Nope, us manual owners get that dip too if we have DTC on.
ALTHOUGH better tires will eliminate that

No digs from us manual owners, those of us who have owned an auto realise that in real life an auto will get you there more quickly. :driving:

 :fuelfire:

I heard (from the guy who sold me mine) that you pay more tax on an Auto? Apparently the box pushes you up an emission band.

not sure if we pay more tax, but even if we do i'm sure its next to nothing, especially if you calculate over 12 months

Auto is one Ins Gp higher.

Nah, transmission wouldn't affect Insurance Group. all 3.0 are group 19, all 2.5s are Group 18 and 2.0 are Group 17.

The difference is with the Emissions, the Manual 3.0i is 221g/km, the Auto is 231g/km, that takes it from a Tax Band of K to a tax band of L, which changes the costs from £215 to £405, which is quite a change considering the engines are the same.

This is all based on a E85 (first generation) Z4 of course.

The 3.0si models produce 207 g/km and 209 g/km for manual and auto respectively. Both under the top tax band limit of 226 g/km

I was told by Ins Co that it was higher, maybe in their internal ratings.

It cost a lot more than the manual to insure - which is why I had the argument with them over my SMG being a manual rather than an auto.

I Googled it as I couldn't see any logic in an Auto being more expensive to insure (if anything I'd have thought cheaper) and one suggestion was the fact Automatics are less common (built in lower numbers) than manuals, and therefore parts would be harder to come by or more expensive, thus pushing the price up of any future repairs.

That makes sense I spose.

Automatics do cost more to insure. I have an SMG so when I did my policy I ran the same quote just to see if there was a difference and the auto was more expensive.
Luckily the SMG is a manual then :)

Please don't tell me the SMG has launch control! I will be going through diffs and tyres quicker than Vanessa Phelps eats donuts. :|

this might be a bit of a silly question but from reading the manuals its slightly unclear.

what is the difference betwen your DTC and DSC?? what does each one do and what is the best setting (apart from all off) to have it on?

DTC = Traction control. Turn this off and you can wheelspin (a bit, in a straight line, try turning and DSC kicks in)
DSC = Stability control. Stops car from sliding/spinning by grabbing brakes and cutting throttle (subject to laws of physics - you can confuse it )

Best setting is definitely everything off. 8)

cheers.

so when you press the button once and it illuminatres DTC on the dash this means that the DTC is active but the DSC is not?

when there is no sign the DSC and DTC is on?

then if you get the sign that basically tells you that you are going to encounter certain death this is everything off?
