Fully compatible phones - Bluetooth.

Why do you want a cradle if you're using Bluetooth? I just leave the phone in my pocket.

The answer to your question is no, the list doesn't get updated very often. However, I have found that all Motorola V3 RAZRs and subsequent are fully compatible, as are all current SonyEricssons (W880i, K610i, etc.), not so sure about those using the UIQ/Symbian OS.

Have also used Windows Mobile5 phone on a E46, E60, and E85 all without problem, for 18 months yet BMW still dont list these.

Prtobably because he wants the charging and the improved antenna functionality.

If you have to plug it in, though, why would it need to be Bluetooth? It's just like an ordinary car kit then...

My Motorola KRZR will pair with the Z4 Bluetooth, however, it can't transfer my phonebook over. It just says "loading phonebook" for 10 minutes, and nothing ever happens. I can still use the car to receive calls, and once I dial the number with the phone I can use the car to talk.

You don't have to plug it in but you can, and doing so will charge the phone very quickly. In my view, it's far nicer to have the phone tucked away, with improved signal and knowing it's being / kept charged.

Hmm, looking at the list all the phones I've tried are listed as 'Limited'. Yet they've all supported making calls via bluetooth, incoming calls, transfer of address book, scrolling through address book using the steering wheel up/down buttons, etc. What does 'Full' actually do, other than this? Being able to read text messages would be good, but I suspect BMW wouldn't want the litigation associated with falling off the road whilst reading a text message.

BTW I heard a rumour that if the phone is connected to the car via Bluetooth it uses the external antenna anyway, regardless of whether it's in the cradle or in your pocket (or in the boot!) Anyone know the truth?

Thats interesting. Neither my N73 or my 6230i works.

What current phones do people recommend? (Ideally one that works with iSync (Mac) too.)

Thanks again.

My 6230i used to work fine with the E46 Bluetooth. You sure you're doing it right?

Yes. The software is not listed by BMW (v03.62) and my friends (later model) works fine. I went to the Nokia website and there are no software updates available to upload.

Bring it to a Carphone Warehouse - they can update the firmware for you for a small fee. Not every shop can do it - just the larger ones, I think. The one on Cheapside (or maybe Poultry, can't remember which of the 2 roads) in London definitely does it.

Oh thats good to know. Thank you. I may well owe you a beer (or 2) if that saves me buying a new phone.

:)
