Full Respray?

Hey people, after the discussion in another thread about my scratches on the bonnet I had been thinking previously I really really want my car to be in a pearl white. And I have been contemplating a full respray in a nice pearl white. My car is a 2004 and has a few scratches and chips all over it so once I have done some exterior mods was thinking about having this done.

Any idea's on how much I am looking for a FULL respray, shuts the lot in a pearl white? What does everyone think to pearl white as a colour for a Z4?
 
Wow - that's a big mod.

Last time I did this was 3 years ago with a trick paint job on a Jeep. Cost me £650, but I had stripped the Jeep of everything. Lights, door cards, wipers, bumper, flares, you name it. Would have been closer to £2k otherwise.

You really need to think hard about total colour changes as there is original colour everywhere.

I'd drive to a couple of the guys who specialise in custom car resprays and see what they have to say.

WOW! That is a smart one....

I have a habbit of going a bit OTT with my mods. I probably won't do it but when I get ideas in my head if the price works out to my liking I do it. There is a place in Harlow, Essex called Custom Exotics and they specialise in some fancy paint jobs such as:

Luckily I know a bloke who works there I went to school with him and only just remember about it.... LOL!

Then once I have it white what does everyone think to black wheels? Also what are the best smooth style looking aftermarket bumpers?
 
Having done some complete color swaps myself you should be prepared to have the car completely stripped down. Remember things like door jams, engine bay, trunk underside will all need to be painted. If you are fairly handy you can do it yourself since prep time costs a lot of money. If you have the time and money I say go for it. But be prepared to be without the Zed for a while.
 
There you go then a great place to get the benchmark price and see if you can get what you want.

I think you need to get some shots on the board of your Zed, colour and wheels and let the experts photoshop it for you
 
What would you recommend on the aftermarket kit side? Bumpers etc... I want it smooth style not OTT as I don't want it to look like Westwood and his crew of gays down at Carisma have thrown up on it!
 
I've never been big in aftermarket panels. I cahnaged to a facelift front as I preferred it and have a difusser ont he back - that's it.

Probably an ///M front is a good start
 
Yer to be honest I am not a great fan of it, might do a bit of modification work to a ///M bumper! See if I can make it nice and smoother. I love the Euro smooth style.
 
The smoothest/cleanest bumper has to be the original prefacelift one.
All the OEm bumpers have their plus points, personaly I really like the original. The M is a nice alternative for a more aggressive look, you could paint the lower middle section black, if you go for pearl white for the whole car, like another member on this forum has ;)

I don't like any of the aftermarket body kits, they tend to look either tacked on or simply don't do justice to the original lines of the car.

The rear bumper you could do some chopping and changing. How about a facelift bumper, with carbon diffuser and reprofiled at the top to fit the original style lights.

Aero sideskirts would be a nice simple addition that should look great with a pearlescent white to show off the extra curve.

A chrome with white grill could look interesting, but maybe too obviously modded.

Pearl white could look very nice on the Z4, the factory white ones on here do look pretty special (when clean)

Any pictures of this other members car?

Pictures of mine? Its standard at the moment just having some ideas as I want my Z4 to be really personalised and exactly how I want it, I am intending on keeping this car for a while, although I am being tempted by the Porsche Cayman ;)
 
Surely if it's going to cost £2K you should just sell the original car and buy another in the colour you want?
 
If i was getting my Z4 resprayed I would be looking to spend at least £3k.

Anything less and they are going to skimp on prep time etc.

I would also expect it to take 3-4 weeks.
 
How about doing it all in a vinyl wrap?

Should cost no more than £1000, is easily removed when you get bored and also protects the original paint/bodywork from damage.

I've see some excellent single colour stuff on everything from Minis to GT3 RSRs and Skyline GTRs.

Unfortunately I've also seem some not so good jobs where the vinyl has been cut (with a razor blade) on the car, and it leave a miniscule scratch in the paint which you don't notice until it's too late. The best fitters will ensure the wrap covers the panel completely and actually goes over the panel edge by a few mm to ensure there's no edges exposed, which also make it almost impossible to see it's a wrap and not a paint job.

I'll be getting mine wrapped once I'm bored of Ruby Black.

Agree maybe even more around 5k for a really good job as said above you need to go back to a bare shell.

Sixspeed, love that car. Especially the black bottom section to the front valance. :thumbsup: Might look good on my car.
Don't you get grief from plod having no front plate???
