Full Krown rust treatment done

Just thought I'd pop a message up to say I'd very much recommend Rob at the Krown HQ at Tipton if you were thinking of getting your car treated for rust prevention.

I've been coming here for years with my Hilux and wanted to protect the coupe with the same treatment. Rob is absolutely fastidious and ensures the treatment gets into every nook and cranny under and in the body, sub frame, wheel wells, panels, seams, trim, engine compartment, suspension, sills, it's the business.

Krown is Canadian, and they salt the hell out of their roads over there. The military uses it on their equipment. Unlike other types of rust prevention, it stays fluid and creeps, so it covers absolutely everywhere underneath, and can self-heal if scraped. It is also non-toxic.

Rob takes off your sill panels, wheel wells, wheels, any trim that needs removing and goes to work. It takes a few hours but you leave with absolute piece of mind you're protected, and it won't need a top up for a couple of years. Best bit? Less than £300.

Thankfully mine is in good shape underneath and despite being driven regularly isn't suffering, though it can't hurt to be belt and braces now our cars are getting on a bit. If you're wanting to treat your car properly and give it the best chance of a rust-free long life, it's worth considering in my opinion.
Rob has done loads of Z4s and knows where to look for nasty stuff.

For £300? That would be worth it just to get your flange bolts drilled out and replaced

I had mine done here a few weeks ago too. Can’t fault the service, even had a little waiting room where you could have a cup of tea and chill out. Comes with a 2 year warranty too so it definitely gives peace of mind, and for a great price. Seems like a no brainer to me to get it done

Exactly that. I had a quick look on their website, but got a bit overwhelmed as couldn't see quick info I needed.

What exactly are they doing underneath? Grinding out rust etc. Or just spraying a load of like Lanolin under etc?

He has a variety of different 360 degree sprays nozzles which fit in everywhere. He doesn't need to remove the exhaust and he's able to spray behind the heat shields in situ. He did say the Z4s don't tend to rust behind them as a rule, but he sprays behind them anyway.

May be a bit late to the party here but this sounds interesting as they are not too far from me. Mine is a daily driver and out in all weathers so underneath isn't in the best shape at all (well for a 20yr old car its ok). Do they remove the existing surface rust before applying the treatment or just spray over the top?

Does it include prep before hand? With these being so old it's likely that there will be surface rust but is this part of it or im guessing on top.

Was looking at a ice blasting but the cost is prohibitive.

I found this info below online on another krown appliers page from the USA.
I am going to have a go at removing a lot of the loose rust using wire brushes and then pop down and see Krown in tipton and see what they can do then. I don't like the idea of just spraying over rust as the below info states :?
The pic shows what 5 mins with a manual wire brush can do so off to buy some drill attachements on Monday to have a proper go at it up on the jacks.

Can Krown be applied to an older vehicle?
It is often advised that older vehicles should not apply a hard undercoating because it will trap and grow any rust or corrosion that is already present. Krown is different. Krown does not trap moisture – it repels moisture from forming and even pulls it out of spots that have already started to corrode. So Krown is a great way to slow down corrosive elements on an older vehicle.

Krown penetrates into the rust and begins to control it. Every year with a new application, the rust is better controlled. In many cases it softens the rust and then the rust wears or flakes away little by little. We’ve personally seen this happen over the years.

Yeah Rob wire brushes loose rust, then hits it hard with compressed air everywhere, then cleans it before starting the process.

Ye its going to take hours to do that and really ice blasting will do a much better job and give a better surface for the treatment to stick to. if your spending the money it makes sense to do it properly but again for another couple of K the price is prohibitive and is it going to add value.
