Hi all,

Hope everyone is enjoying having the top down in this heat the UK is having, if you're like me and have the skin tone of Casper the friendly ghost... then don't forget the sun cream!

So I'm in the process of swapping out the badges on my 23i M Sport, and I'm not finished yet but thought I'd share how I'm getting on and hopefully help some of you out there wanting to do the same.

I bought a 7 piece set (link below), this contains:
1 x 82mm badge with bonnet/side mounting plate
1 x 74mm badge with bonnet/side mounting plate
4 x wheel centre cab badges with wheel centre mounting caps
1 x steering wheel badge.

From what I've seen, there are no sets for the actual size and number of badges needed for my car, which is:
1 x 74mm badge with bonnet mounting plate
1 x 72mm badge with boot mounting plate (can't find this anywhere)
2 x 70mm badges with side mounting plate (can't find these anywhere)
4 x wheel centre cap badges with wheel centre mounting caps
1 x steering wheel badge

The wheel centre cap badges from the set linked are great, fit really well. My original badges were very faded and dinted. I used bodywork trim tools to remove the first 3, but the last one wasn't having any of it, some people suggest using tape to remove them by sticking the tape to caps and when you pull the tape it pulls the cap with it... didn't work with the last one! As I wasn't keeping the old ones, I drilled a screw into the centre of the cap and pulled it out with a pair of plyers.

The 82mm badge doesn't fit any of the locations.

For the front bumper badge location, the 74mm badge fit my M Sport bumper front badge location (not sure if the standard bumper is the same) but needs smaller internal diameter rubber grommets than the factory ones to hold it in place, as the pins on the new mounting plate are a smaller diameter, or stick it in place with good quality VHB tape.

For the side badge locations, the 74mm badge/plates do fit, but again, needs smaller internal diameter rubber grommets to hold the mounting plate or stick it in place with good quality VHB tape. But the set only comes with one....

For the steering wheel badge, I decided to remove the stock badge, which I wish I didn't do. The stock badge has tabs on it that post through slots in the steering wheel centre and then fold round back, its a pain to get off! And...when off there isn't a smooth surface to mount the badge to, there are ribs behind where the badge sits, as the area is a silicone rubber material, I used a scalpel blade to cut away the ribs to create a smooth surface, then stuck the badge on. LONG STORY SHORT... just stick the new badge over the stock one.

For the boot badge location, I've not actually done this, the mounting plates with pins won't work, as badge is also used to open the boot, the assembly is different to all the others. You could just stick a 74mm badge over the top of the stock one, but my plan is... to remove the stock badge, cut of the pins on the underside of the mounting pin to make it flat, add VHB tape to the underside, and stick it in place. But I'll report back after trying this.

So I've used every badge from the set apart from the 82mm, and I need 3 more 74mm badges, 2 for the sides and 1 for the boot... but a single badge costs more than another set... so looks like I'm going to end up with 12 spare wheel centre cap badges.

If anyone has had a different experience with swap badges out it would be great to hear!

Can’t really help except to say if you remove the wheel you can easily push the centre cap out

Don't know about fitting the badges as I haven't done that but seeing as you are on a blackout run you will want to do those wheels next. Just had mine done:
