Evening everyone

Just wondered what fuel you put in your cars? The standard unleaded or the higher octane stuff. It's just that with older cars in the past I've experienced a little better economy ( not that it bothers me to be honest) any thoughts / experience?

I was putting mainly Tesco Super in, due the 20p per litre you could get off. But now that offer has finished it's back to Shell Super. :D

The Tesco version I was led to believe used ethanol to boost the rating which in some ways is not as good as the way Shell get 99. Might have been something to do with the effect higher ethanol content has on your fuel pipes etc if they weren't designed for it. I also like to believe the additives are better with Shell but maybe I'm deluded...
 
I used tesco momentum now. Get approx 2mpg extra. Feels like it's happier to drink that aswell, as opposed to the standard 95 Ron.
 
Mmmmm, interesting. All I ever use is Shell standard unleaded and seems to run fine, averaging 36.1 mpg. Always wondered whether it was worth the extra for the V-power? :?
 
Im doing a road trip to belgium on the weekend and im going to put tesco super in with redex too. Usually just tesco normal fuel though.
 
Stick to whatever super unleaded I can find, usually Shell V-Power Plus Nitro Super Duper or Tesco.

When I'm at the 'Ring I put in ED's finest 98/99 super plus or Aral's 102 RON stuff.
 
Stay away from Supermarket petrol. Read on this forum that some cars are throughing up error codes and the solution is using premium petrol. Not sure how true this is but always understood that Supermarket petrol should only be used occasionaly.
 
That was an old rumour. Nothing wrong with supermarket fuel. I've had my Z4 3 and a half years and only use Tesco as it's my closest petrol station. No issue's whatsoever.
 
Surely all fuel is tested to be a certain quality. Supermarkets buy it from the same refinery as everyone else. I bet the standard unleaded is the same only when buying the super does the diffrences apear
 
I agree it all has to meet quality standards but its to do with the additives/cleaning agents which are then added by the companies. As a matter of course, I would only fill up occasionally from the Supermarket - just not worth the risk of gumming up such a work of art.
 
I've covered 27k miles in mine and only filled up with non-supermarket fuel 3 times at Shell and maybe once or twice at BP. No issues, though I always use super unleaded.
 
I use unicorn pee mixed with a rainbow additive, but only from a supermarket. It gives me 1,000km per litre and smells like victory.
