The garage said to me that the M will run on either unleaded or super unleaded, i have tried both in it and found no difference.

What is everyone elses opinions of the grade of fuel.

PS. I would never go supermarket, only name branded fuels.

I can't tell the difference if I've put in the 95p stuff or the 103p stuff at my local Shell. In a blind test, I don't reckon many could.

Very interesting article on the testing of various fuels:

Can be downloaded in PDF format as well on the link.

I think we might all be hard pressed to tell the difference but, to me, the reason I only use V Power is because of the higher detergent content and resistance to early ignition.

Basically in a high performance engine like the S54, anything that can help is a good thing in my book.

I only use Tesco's 99 or Shell Vmax, run your car on tesco's 99 for a few weeks and then swap bag to boggo 95, you'll certainly feel the diffference, just feels less responsive and a tad lardy, I use tesco's 99 more and find it absolutely fine

I have tried vmax in the porsches and in the M
Cant say ive tried tesco's, will do though next time im close

Totally agree Taff - have used the Tesco 99 Ron since it first came out, and over two cars. Not sure I could tell it from V power but ceratinly can from "cooking" 95ron.

I always used Shell V Power until I was forced to use Tesco 99 from the local supermarket. I have to say I found it just as good if not better than Shell. Thorney Motorsport certainly recommend it and they have the dyno figures to back it up.

Same as you Curtis, always Shell V Power and then recently tried the Tesco 99 and the car did seem very responsive.

I wonder if its in my mind sometimes though.

Certainly no worse though, that is for sure.

Sucks here because most places only offer 91 (minimum according the the manual), with Sunoco being the highest I've seen at 94...... :x :x :x

Bloody hell - on 91 you'd be lucky if your pushing out 250 BHP :o
You might be better of with an LPG conversion

You're confusing MON and RON ratings. Your 94 is equivalent to our 97/98.

See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Octane_rating

RON102 fuel should be better for trackdays, but I don't see it working well as usually the car needs to go through 2 or 3 tankfulls for the ECU to adjust itself to the new grade, so by the end of the day the car would be getting good performance out of the Ultimate 102 stuff...

If you disconnect the battery for 20 minutes it forces the ECU to reboot. You've got to reprogramme your windows/clock etc afterwards which is a pain but it might be worth a try.

Hmm, 55 litre tank, 3 tankfuls is 165 litres at something like £2.50/litre. £412.50. Might be better off getting some new brakes or tyres instead...
