Fuel pump?

When I turn the ignition on (before starting engine) after 24+ hours parked, I hear a low pitch humming noise that lasts a few seconds. Could it be coming from the fuel pump? Should I consider short term replacement?

Definitely sounds like a fuel pump running. I had the same thing on my 2003 3ltr, the pump buzzed for about 10secs when ever the car had been left for a few days. I am certain that at one of the servicings the fuel pump came up as a recall item and was replaced under warrenty.

How old is your car, and does it have a service history? Since mine was replaced there has been no buzzing on start up.

I've always heard the fuel pump building up the pressure before start up (isn't that normal?), but the sound has definitely changed to a lower pitch that sounds odd. 2003, 3.0L recalled for fuel pump back in 2004 on the previous owner's service history.
