Fuel filler door/ flap broken

Hi all,

Yesterday while filling up, the door/ flap fell off for no apparent reason and now it won't stay on. It slides into position but doesn't hold itself on.

Any ideas?

I went to BMW and they reckon some little clips have broken off, but I can't see where this may have happened.
