Fuel Duty/TAX....Anyone up for a riot?

Why are we not rioting? Howay man... :?

By the time the petrol lands on our forecorts after it has been pumped out of the ground It is probably worth 50-60p per litre. Add on the Tax+VAT and hey presto it costs around £70 to fill your motor.

Moored Tankers off our shores waiting until fuel prices go higher and higher..

The above article gets my goat, however aside from that. When VAT goes back up (17.5%), I can see the price of unleaded heading for 130p per litre.

I would happily pay £1.00 per litre, but as I see it creeping up and up it seems no-one really gives a s**t…

When a new government comes in, will fuel prices go down? who knows..?
 
I just use a stolen credit card instead - after all if the gubberment can get away with daylight robbery, then I should be fine :P
 
unfortunatley there's not much we can do. TBH the government is the main blame im my opinion as the duty is a joke.

I use http://www.petrolprices.com to find the cheapest petrol station near me. it's updated quite often and has some other useful info on the site.

And it is all across Europe with a few exceptions, so we are not alone.
 
They love bumping up the green issue, its a great revenue provider, and fuel falls into that bracket :cry:

Been doing this for years all around the world. The Big Tankers drift deep sea for days waiting for somebody to purchase the fuel. Often the ownership of a load will change hands a few times during a voyage.
 
car fuel tax through the roof but there is absolutely NO tax on aircraft fuel, they are the big polluters using something like 56 times as much fuel per person more than a land based form of transport. so many uneccessary internal flights and empty seats. if they had to pay even 2p a litre tax the treasury would have so much revenue they (this government) would not know how to spend it quick enough. we would not miss a few airlines going bust either, a holiday is Z shaped, the only flying we need!!!
 
Except that planes can get their fuel in any country they like, hence difficult to set a tax level as they would just not buy a single litre of fuel in the UK.
 
thtas not correct, planes cannot land with the weight of a fuel load on hence when there is a problem they dump the fuel, so every plane landing in uk would have to pay the tax, in any case if politicians genuinely believe the claptrap about global warming surely they should be taxing aircraft the same as cars/buses/lorries? aircraft are notoriously heavy on fuel, a jumbo uses 300 gallons just to take off, this would heat a small house for a year, and on an atlantic crossing the consumption is around 56,000 gallons, ships by contrast are about 6 times more efficient.
 
well, on my European trips I land and take off a number of times without refuelling though.
 
still an horrendous waste of fuel and if it was taxed, less people would holiday abroad stay at home and the domestic tourist industry would, as it has done this year, recieve a huge, much needed boost. there would be no need for yet more airports, more noise, more pollution, every one would benefit, i say tax 'em.
 
I assume the rise in tax on fuel for cars.

Re the planes - fully agree on increasing the cost for that, it is madness that I can fly all around Europe for less then taking a train to London (which is 35 miles away !).

I don't believe it is necessary that flying should be available for all and the noise / pollution from that is a blight.

I was not even aware about the fuel for planes. So its actually cheaper to fly to Europe than it is to drive to London? :thumbsdown:
 
Take the following example:

Flight from Gatwick to Eindhoven (my home town) is £30 one way including taxes.

Difference of £13 each way to cover 300 miles more is fairly illogical. These are not offer flights, just standard fares.
