Yeah, that's what I do using "Road Trip" on the iPhone, though... I do wonder how accurate it is measuring between fill-ups. There could be variations in the measurement of fuel, it's hard to know if you've filled up to exactly the same point each time and your mileometer isn't likely to be that accurate, ie: think of the speedo reading difference between the speedo and a GPS, then consider that difference in accuracy over a 300 mile drive - that probably adds up to a 5% difference in MPG.

Just a hypothesis really, would be interested in peoples comments... :)
 
I drove from Derby to London last friday... had the roof down all the way (arrived after 10pm so got a few strange looks when it was darkish!)

Due to countless accidents my average speed was only 50mph; and had a lot of stop start but with 99 Ron i got 39mpg! Very good considering.
 
Managed 2 runs of 200 mile plus each with cruise on at around the 70mph this week
Lichfield to Slough and then Lichfield to Branitree

Pulled an amazing 37.2 MPG with the roof down most of the time, auto and in temperatures of at one point 32.5c out Essex way.

I'd class that as amazing on a 7 year old 3 litre sports car :thumbsup:
 
Yes very good indeed,CJ.

I Average between 28.5 and 32MPG ,usually settling at around 29.5 mpg/on a variety of v.short local/town runs and some out of town runs also.
On longer runs i will see upto 36/38 mpg ,and on the recent z4 meet,it was doing 36.8 mpg from West coast of Scotland,down to Kendal/The Lakes(and back),while getting as low as 25/26mpg while blasting it on the runs themselves.(avg mpg for the whole weekend was a respectible 29.7MPG) :)

between each fill up is inaccurate, but over several fill ups you get a more accurate figure, i have calculated miles per gallon this was since i bought the car
 
I use a free app called Mileage on Android. Just type in a few details every time you fill up and it gives you loads of stats and graphs.
 
Mine is now managing 32.4mpg on mixture of motorway/town driving. Road type mix is about 60:40 ratio.

Mind you when I did 99% city driving it used to be 25mpg. I think 3.0 doesn't like stop/start but doesn't mind high revs.
 
I've just read all the posts on this subject and taken as a whole it's clear we really do have special cars here.

Puts me in mind of the wording of the previous owner of our car in his selling advert: ".....amazing engine that does 0-60 in under 6 seconds but regularly averages over 35 mpg" - he wasn't lying :D

Definitely agree with that, I've just done Manchester to Nottingham and back which is a mix of M1 motorway and the A628 (Woodhead Pass) which is a fast and windy A road. I think the fuel guage was on 34.6mpg when I parked up on the drive (after having reset it as I left this morning). That included a couple of high speed sections on the motorway and a fairly spirited drive back across the Woodhead Pass.

Pretty awesome :)
 
I've found the computer to be a bit off, as much as 3mpg. On a long highway cruise, 55mph with the top up, it said I was getting 44mpg. As for the underground tanks, they're temp controlled. In my experience anyway. (I worked at a gas station/convienence store. Every night we had to take a reading on the pumps. Tank temps was one of them.)
 
I reckon it is possible to achieve 44 mpg. Ive just completed a trip of some 1000 miles , I hit the button and zero'd the mpg an average speed, the mpg max was 40.9 , Glasgow, Chester, Oxford, Bournmouth, Torquay,on arriving home the average was 39.7 , mainly motor way driving using cruise set at 70 mph, however I did have a blast now an then, average speed reading for the trip was 45 mph ,,,,, cars a 2.5i
 
I averaged about 31mpg going to manchester and back (from blackpool), not speeding.

Thats in a 2.5i sport Auto

(By the way we had a great day out a Beaulieu Motor Museum - if you haven't been, then GO, it's a must-see attraction for all Petrol Heads)

I just finished a mega US road trip (Ontario Canada in direction Chicago then along or near Route 66 to Flagstaff AZ (US I-44 & I-40 Route 66 only exists in certain sections), up to Vegas then to the coast down to LA, back up to Orion along Coastal Highway 1 and 101 then inland up to Mount Rushmore ND then via Chicago back home). In total I drove 13,303 KM Fuel Consumption (per computer readout on my sDRIVE Z435i) started at 10.5/100 KM then down to 9.5 about half way and with 3000 KM to go showed up as 8.6 L/100 KM and stayed that way until I was back home. The trip was fantastic btw :)

Looks like a great trip! All the traditional shots of the US us Brits think of as being America, nice big long sweeping roads with nothing but desert and mountains either side :thumbsup:

Damn shame about the wheel - that kind of thing can really take the edge off the trip, but looks like you got home safe :)

(Love the shots of the bikes near Mt. Rushmore)
 
Done a 160 mile round trip at the weekend. Pretty much 70mph all the way with the top down and returned 39mpg.
Now back to 26mpg around town.
Very happy with the mpg I'm getting from the zed. :thumbsup:
