Fuel consumption of 3.0i

Hi, mine is a 3.0 manual and I'm getting between 500 - 600 kms on a full tank. This is mostly motorway driving. My car has 68k kms on the clock. I am not driving it hard all the time but have my little moments :D

Hi, Not sure how accurate the onboard computer is but on my 3.0 manual 04 with 46000 miles, it is showing 33.6 mpg. I have not reset it for about 2 months, this is mixed motorway and local driving. When I came home after 4 months away it was showing 28.8 mpg but my wife does not use 6th and does more local driving.
I am in the UK so this is imperial gallons. I must do a check from full tank to full tank to check the computer. I allways try use super unleaded and I can tell the difference if I do have to use regular so maybe this could also make a difference.

Hi Guys, thanks for the replies,
My car is a 2003 3 litre automatic. so at exact half tank which is around 25 litres, i have driven 130kms. assuming 25 litres is approximately 6 galons, it looks like i would be getting roughly 20 kms per galon, 5kilometres per litre. That is shocking! I am also filling up with 98RON premium unleaded.
How do i clean the air flow sensor and how would i check if O2 sensor is playing up?

Why don't you look at the onboard computer readout instead of guessing?

Steve

I've only had mine a short time but on the first take I got 23, the second tank 20.5 and the third is running around 25 with a little less than half a tank to go. It almost seems to get better milage if I drive it a litle harder..

I don't think the readout is accurate.

So yesterday i went to fill up the car, i put in 39 litres for a full tank. When i last filled it up, i zeroed the odo. so for 39 litres of petrol i have driven 283kms. that works out to be 7.25km per litre.
I have booked the car in to BMW to get a fuel consumption test done. so hopefully they can find something.
