Astounding. A 200 mile trip averaging 40mpg. Not bad for a big engine.

I got just under 400 miles out of a full tank a few weeks ago, cruising a steady 60mph down the French motorways - great engines!

That's what I get, 25 MPG.

On the 3.0si (auto) I get about 18mpg around town / shorter trips, 22mpg on a mixed cycle, and 26mpg on the motorway. No idea where and how everyone else gets 30+mpg.. but I guess if you're in manual you've more control over your gearing. I try and nudge it into 5th / 6th when cruising steady in the auto with the paddle shifts but it makes little difference, and always drops back down to the optimum gear (3 or 4).

23.5 is the mpg my trip alwats reads -- sometimes i am on the mway doing 80 and i see it 30 + , but then it drops down to 23.5 always ....

Best I have had on a long run was 31mpg - I know for a fact that was sh1t compared to what it could have been because I did 500 miles and was cruising well north of 85mph pretty much 80% of the journey.

@DMO and Chris - my MPG changed dramatically after I had a proper alignment done, now sits at about 26-27mpg, despite lots of stop start town driving and slower motorway commuting. My wheels were so out of alignment it was ridiculous, it was the only thing that changed to affect mpg, so I would recommend getting this done

I am very impressed with the consumption of my 3.0

Did a euro trip very recently and after approximately 3600 miles we got 36.6mpg. That was with two people in the car + luggages and the most impressive thing is that we weren't just cruising at 60mph.. Rarely dropped below 90 on motorways and we did all sorts of driving.. from autobahn, to cities, to the alps.

Average since I got the car is 35.7 at the moment but I think generally in the UK I am getting around 33mpg with mixed driving.

I m quite suprised when I read values like 35 mpg ...

On a 600km trip with luggages and 2 persons I did 33mpg. (driving at 150kmh, no cruise control)
When I go on small roads and pushes the engine I do 25 max ...

I got 36.8 on a round trip to Heathrow from home last week. It's dropped down to 34.4 since as I've been doing short runs today

Best I've had over a tank is 41mpg, I've only been impressed by the fuel economy on longer journeys. Tend to find I'm averaging just under 35mpg on most tanks.

A couple of times now I've managed to get a fair bit over 400 miles from a tank.

It's the driving round town which really kills my mpg hence good numbers come from the long runs.

Will look to get this done - didn't ever think [wheel] alignment would have such an effect on mpg. My car in general needs a service - any recommendations around Surrey drop me a ping.

dmo, I changed the springs to Eibachs, added spacers and had an alignment done - nothing else changed from when I was regularly getting low mpg. The camber was all over the place, and the toe of one of the front wheels was over 6 degrees out of alignment. I was surprised as hell, but there's no other explanation - same fuel (cheap not vpower or premium), same driving style (heavy footed, just for fun...), was serviced last 8,000 miles ago, well before the alignment. Only other thing that has been done is a brake fluid change. I don't have any recommendations for Surrey, but if you go to alignmycar.co.uk you may find a place near you

18 mpg for me purely around town :( gonna be 200 miles to this tank I reckon (first full tank)

Maybe worth a four wheel alignment then!

When I used mine as a daily driver 35mpg (calculated) was possible....

However, now mine is a weekend only car, I tend to get sub 30mpg from it. Averaging around 28 mpg, which is mainly spirited driving
