Was looking at piston heads on the weekend looking at Z4 coupes which I cannot afford... instead just purchased a hardtop instead!! best of both worlds :D

Anyway this has to be a steal If I had the cash I would!! I emailed him seems ok sadly does not want a 3.0 z4 roadster in p/x

Check it out

Cheers Patrick

Apparently someone did all the checks and it turns out OK. There are desperate sellers sometimes, just have to be careful.

What would make me concerned is - despite the seller saying it was his wife's car - check out his PH username (trackdemon) and also this pic in his profile:

Saying all that, he seems a very genuine seller looking through his profile and also at cars previously/currently owned (Honda NSX - git!), so it could be a bit of a bargain :)

Oops. Rumbled!

I had a good read of this guys PH profile last night and he may well have taken care of the car, but he's sure pushed it on track use. One line reference 8 rear tyres worn out in just such use.

I'd bet the bodywork is OK but mechanicals had the equal of a 100k life already

To be fair to him though, he is offloading at a price that reflects all of these comments. Still a lot of car at that price. I would have been tempted a few months back when I bought mine if it was for sale then

:D Along the same lines - anyone interested in my Yamaha R6 - only done 7000 miles 2008 model, absolutely mint, not a scratch on it ......

of course all 7000 of those miles were on a race track between 12000 and 16000 rpm. Theres not a scratch on it anywhere because all the nice shiny plastics were upstairs in my attic everytime I threw it down the road, wheels are brand new as well because they are the 4th set.

It has of course been well looked after - had at least 34 oil changes with filter - had at least 25 changes of brake pads - has no wear at all on the sprockets because the last 16 that wore out are in the bin. Apart from the errrrrrrr "well run" in sounds coming from the engine you'd swear it was brand new.

All in all a gem and a bargain, just the thing for your granny to nip to the shops on - garanteed of course ....... at least until you are out of sight. :D

Some interesting points.. I think if it all checked out I reckon its a steal 20-25% below book price I mean 4 years old thats sbout 17k a year so there has been some normal driving there, to be fair I would not dare sell my z4 at the moment people will be giving there away in Cornflakes if this prices keep tumbleing. Now I got the hardtop am all in love again feels like a coupe!!best of both worlds

The other day I saw a 911 (996) on pistonheads for 6k I stunned until I saw it had done 256k!!! miles, but its about being relistic and you know what it was sold!

Good luck to him I say if of course it all checks out

In line with Teamemmenracing's great analogy this car is by no means all it seems:

25% below book, perhaps, good value - well who knows. If the owner is so amazingly honest then why does his advert show it as his wife's lovingly cared for car? Seeing some of his posts he really knows the value of his cars and this one suddenly has to go?

His PH garage shows the following entry including the fact that he's scrubbed off 4 sets of rears in the first 20k:

Over 15 months/20k miles into ownership now. Still think its brilliant, and has been improved by the switch to non-runflats all round. Lack of an LSD is irritating but is probably only relevant to the tiny % of hooligans who care about such things.
Nothings gone wrong, only one piece of trim has fallen off (@ a trackday) and been put back, 4 sets of rear tyres have been chewed up, its now returning a barely creditable 29.4mpg and just continues to be all round bloody brilliant. Whats more, after all those miles it still feels like something a little bit special.
On track? Well, its frankly bl00dy lairy in the dry - wants to oversteer on entry, mid corner, and on exit. Fun, in other words Understeers in the wet, and throttle will generally push the front or spin the inside tyre so a clutch kick is needed to adopt the 'correct' cornering attitude

With it now sat on 65,000 this guy knows exactly how hard a life this has led and is getting rid before it falls to pieces.

Just my 2p worth and I'd not touch this with the proverbial barge pole

Interesting stuff.....the bit in his Piston Head Blog clarifies the tyre usage...

"I killed the first set of rears by exploring the Z's drifiting capabilities at Bruntingthorpe - great fun, but full opposite lock + full throttle @ 80mph = lots of smoke, big smiles, and dead tyres. Opportunity to ditch the runflats replaced with Toyo's which I've had good experience with in the past."

Some going, my first set of rears saw me through to just under 18,000 miles....

mmmm to be fair my honour the evidence is looking damming!!... did not know there was a dedicated page on PH about thrashing it

Nothing clever, just a bit of basic investigation. From the advert go to the user and from ther his garage and a nice story about the life of the car to about 20k miles

Despite all the comments above, if the car checks out as currently running well and bodily good then at that price it would be perhaps a good car to enjoy for a year and sell-on (with the benefit of a new PH) for close to the buying price???

Agree, just basic checks that I'd start off with if I was looking at any car. PH has a good section for recording info on your car, but in some cases it could bite a seller in the ass. This could appear to be one of those examples as there wouldn't be a chance in hell I'd go near that car.

*runs off to check my own PH profile about my Z4 just in case*
