FS: Sat Nav Screen - Black

I am selling a black Sat Nav screen that was recently removed from my car.

The screen is in full working order and the stepper motor is fully functional. The screen does take a couple of minutes to get to full brightness on colder days, but on reading this forum this appears to be a common issue. The screen and surround does have scratches on the top and the surround thanks to a windscreen fitter (see pictures). I have included a recent picture of the screen in use in my car.

This would be an ideal unit for a project, or to replace a faulty/damaged screen or stepper motor.

I am after £100 + P&P. I am more than happy for someone to collect from the Kent area.

Any questions please ask!

Have you replaced with one in better condition then?

I have indeed. I purchased the one sold by Ranski which was in better condition.

Where in Kent are you? And do you have the rear trim piece?

Thanks

Dan

I'm in Orpington near Bromley. No rear trim piece I'm afraid

Apart from the hole I'm the dash how hard are these to retrofit?

Easy job, problem is getting the loom. Unless you can find one you have to modify one from an X3

srhutch, thought that fitting the screen screws was the hardest part of the job for you :poke:

Just to confirm this is now sold to Danmiddle2 as I'm still receiving PM's enquiring if it is still available.

Dan has a very interesting project planned for this, I'm really looking forward to seeing the results :)

It was good to meet you mate, I enjoyed the chat. Good luck with the project

Likewise, it was nice to meet you too. Funnily enough, I have just started to dissect it :D Looks like it is going to need some serious modification to achieve what I want.

I have seen the result with a Garmin mounted in the frame and it looks really good, with the step motor still opening / closing etc.

The hardest part is proving to be finding a tablet of suitable proportions to fit the odd screen size in the Z4 housing... originally I was hoping to squeeze a Nexus 7 in there, but it simply wont fit.

Then, there are large phone/small tablet devices (phablets? apparently)... something like the 6.3" Samsung Galaxy Mega would have been ideal but the problem with these is that they have hardware buttons. Making them accessible / usable is going to mean a messier job than I am willing to do. Also, the buttons don't rotate, and are too close to the edge of the device, so that's a non starter.

Think I have found a potential device this afternoon though. Unfortunately it's not available in the UK and costs over £400! Need to do my homework on that before I buy it. I am documenting the dissection, and will post full details of the build (even if it's unsuccessful).

All the best,

Dan
